A time when they put effort into long scenes on TV, and pageantry was on display. Still a bit of the psychedelic to this too. I liked to see Chewie in the segment near the end.
Maggot Brain, the original Ride To The Stars is by Barry Manilow, and I agree, it would have been a perfect song to extend.

There was nothing special about this. In the 70s, TV was replete with terrible variety shows. A few of them had good jokes, like Carol Burnett, but the musical numbers were all just like this.

Boomer The Dog - 2015-04-28 I can see that, it's like when a popular form of music becomes mature, musicians know how to play it easily and well, and you have thousands of great bands flooding the airwaves with that style. Pull a band like that out 40 years later and played by itself they sound amazing.
The song and dance variety show had been going on since Vaudeville days and the earliest TV, and was just a few years from fading out after this Osmonds show. Maybe what we're seeing is the end of an era, the best of the times, even if it wasn't recognized as such at the time.
I think the problem is overexposure, not enough variation in entertainment in a particular era. Now variety shows are in the form of talent judging shows, but that's all we have.

Lamest skateboard sequence ever @ 28:00. No, seriously.
At least watch from 28:45 onwards.
HOWEVER, 28:18, there's a small treat for Boomer!

Boomer The Dog - 2015-04-28 Thanks Homer. A Sheltie riding what must be a specially put together double skateboard, with glasses on, pretty cool!
I downloaded the video, and saw part of the skate sequence before, but must have missed the pooch.
