Can we just fucking stop with the voice-altering crap? No matter how shit your real voice is, it's still better than this.

fluffy - 2015-06-08

I think the intention is normally to make it seem all UNDERGROUND and ANONYMOUS. But yeah it's obnoxious. I blame Extra Credits for making it popular although it probably goes back way further than that.

However, I don't hear any of that happening in this video - just someone with a really heavy accent, possibly Dutch. They just sound like that.

CIWB - 2015-06-08

I'm pretty sure it's altered. It's not a complete Stephen Hawking-esque robovoice, but rather distortion effects added to someone's normal voice. Unless abrupt pauses and warbly distortions are what a Dutch accent sounds like.

I wouldn't know, because who the hell speaks to the Dutch?

This dude just doesn't know how to hold a microphone is all.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-06-09

Idk I'm pretty sure the powers that be might have been gunning for him at least a little but now he just got publicly hired by some 4k transfer company

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-09

Yeah, there are a lot of varieties of manslaughter that are treated less seriously than things like this, I think he probably had some legitimate reasons to be concerned.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-08

I don't know if these are the same but I torrented fan restored versions years ago, they even managed to get their hands on the elements that were changed for the 1980 rerelease somehow. Picture is on par with the nice, two-disc laserdisc editions. Definitely worth a look if only to remember that the first two movies really were pretty good.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-06-08

These are way better. I have a huge digital media collection which is always pirated and constantly updated. I am planning on building an off the grid cinema temple as a milestone beacon of cultural exchange

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-06-08

Watching the death star blow up without the digital toilet ring stain, sparkling, Nd the original laser blasts are an emotional ride.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-09

Do you know if the 40gb blu-ray version of the Aliens restoration from a few years back ever got out? I know they had already released the DVD version before they were shut down, but I was hoping and expecting the blu-ray to make it onto private trackers eventually. The legitimate blu-ray version of Aliens is one of the worst things I've ever seen done to a movie, so it would be really cool to have that out there.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-09

Anyway, I've still got the 1993 laserdiscs of the first two, which should be the same transfers as the "gout" edition but without the problems of early digital transfers and the DVD format in general. I haven't had a player in a while but they looked fantastic.

boner - 2015-06-09

What did they do to Aliens? I've seen it in cinemas twice in the past few years, it looked awesome, it was also the shorter version, which is probably for the best too. I'm sure it had all the grain removed, though. I went to see Jaws a couple years ago and it has no film grain at all, looks like it was made yesterday. Also the 3D version of Jurassic Park (which I thought was awesome too)

The Mothership - 2015-06-08

As long as I have my original VHS from the 80s and my VCR I don't need these, right?

I do have those original VHS, by the way.

Maggot Brain - 2015-06-09

I had forgotten how good the original models looked on the approach on the death star.

Lurchi - 2015-06-09

the colors look so much better

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-06-09

I can't imagine being such a hardcore fan of something that I'd be inspired to do something like this because the tints in this scene are off or they altered a shadow in this one shot from the original.

However, as a total dork who used do video edit and see just how well I could make crap quality footage look via AVIsynth and virtualdubmod as a hobby, I kind of have to admire this level of dedication.

Spit Spingola - 2015-06-09

I love this video because the amount of effort undertaken is absolutely insane. It's like when they reconstruct a Fritz Lang silent film from prints of varying quality only it's FUCKING STAR WARS THE MOST FAMOUS MOVIE EVER. It's really dumb that they can't just release decent transfers of the films the way they were originally released.

Boomer The Dog - 2015-06-10

The Piratebay is working for this, and I'm sure it's in other places too, but the current PB address is in the video's comment section.

I want to check this out, I saw the original in a downtown cinema when my aunt took me to it back then. Fewer entertainment choices meant that when a movie was called an 'event' or a blockbuster it really was known by mostly everyone.

Way to go nerd brigade. Keep doing high quality work to preserve the thing you like from it's creator!
