This was great! I haven't seen the whole thing yet but will watch it later. But in 4:38 I saw fully dressed furries and people with no costumes at all or just a tail on their back, caregivers and ADA access for all. This group seems a lot more accepting than most conventions I've worked, including a few furry/anime ones in the past. I dunno. I'm not gonna put on a suit or anything but I love everybody in this video so much right now.

infinite zest - 2015-07-12

The door people seem incredibly disinterested though. I mean, it's not everybody's thing. I've worked all kinds of events, like one day I had to work an opera and monster truck rally the same day but I never just apathetically sat there like I didn't give a shit about what people enjoy doing, even though I "get" the one and don't "get" the other. Part of the job of and door person or movie theatre usher which they train you on is you're the last face you see before enjoying your thing no matter what that is.

fedex - 2015-07-12

One of the best things I always look forward to seeing every year on POEtv.

Also IZ, I am curious which one you "got", opera or monster trucks?

infinite zest - 2015-07-12

Really, it was monster trucks. I was an opera singer growing up. So I liked being on stage but never in the crowd. But all I wanted to do was watch WWF, listen to punk rock, things like that. I wasn't forced into it by any means though. When my voice went from soprano to somewhere around tenor, I gave up on ever being a lead.

There's good Opera out there, don't get me wrong. Adams, Neuwirth and even Glass are keeping the artform alive but it's a far cry from whatever I'd imagine Monteverdi and the Camerata's vision was some 500+ years ago. But nobody wants to see the new ones, and complain when the old ones are repeated. It's just a social club for a whole bunch of bridge and tunnels who just use it as an excuse for socializing. Monster Trucks on the other hand. Bring on the truckafuckingsaurus!

fedex - 2015-07-12

Clearly the way forward is more operas about monster trucks.

infinite zest - 2015-07-13

Yeah! That would be great! Not sure if it's been done. I think there was one about Nascar, or maybe F1 racing, like for real. The Frozen Walt Disney one was cool too. Not frozen, just about Disney getting frozen himself. The band The Knife has a cool opera about Charles Darwin out there too. There's definitely cool opera, but it's never commissioned anywhere in these United States, or at least where I live, which is the "weird" part of the country.

A couple of years ago when I was still working there, we started a program to get younger folks into opera: 5 dollar tickets for anyone currently on food stamps. And what did that do? It drove the old people away who didn't want to sit next to the guy with a backpack with their tiny little purses and shit. For a lot of these dudes it was their first opera ever. I'd get people to go by wining and dining at cheap places downtown vs. the expensive ones and they'd come. I really thought this was the way to save opera, because these old fucks will be dead soon enough. Instead I got laid off and I think they stopped the whole program so fuck opera.

Always my favorite time of year.

The Zebra at 0:44

Jesus thighs at 2:23

3:02

The doofy dog guy at 3:22

The dude in nothing but a furry optimus helmet at 4:32

The absolute nightmare at 4:39

There is something about the dude in the red shirt at 5:22-5:27 that scares the shit out of me.

The portly mom-dog in jeans at 5:33

6:32 oh my god ah AAHHHHH STOP

8:14 YOSHI

9:03 CONFEDERATE FLAG FURRY

THAT'S IT I'M OUT

infinite zest - 2015-07-12

ruh roh

EvilHomer - 2015-07-12

My favorite was the articulated cardboard skeleton and the vaguely Portal-y robot person. Raptor Jesus at 25:50 was pretty classy, too.

I'm noticing a lot more non-traditional fursuits this year (the ones above, plus GIR, lots of faceless furries, and a handful of ponies). Is that a "thing" now? Also, speaking of the Confederate Flag furry, this is very off-topic but does anyone have a picture of the flag, draped across something roughly mound-shaped (end table works too), and on fire?

EvilHomer - 2015-07-12

^ 12:00 and 16:35 for robot and skeleton furry.

Sadly, I did not spot Sharky anywhere. He may be the "muscle shark", but I am not sure!

This guy's commentary track is a great idea on paper, but in practice it falls flat, because he fails to give equal screen time to all the furries, and he only remembers to name like twelve of them. Next year, what needs to happen is that someone with a bit of discipline and professionalism should go film the parade, while reading off the list so the rest of us know who's who.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-12

And skip to 28:10 for a fat man in a kilt.

Scrimmjob - 2015-07-12

pretty sure sharky is in there in the first 10 minutes!

BHWW - 2015-07-13

I hope the Confederate Flag furry doesn't give people a negative image of furries!

EvilHomer - 2015-07-13

OH! I just went back and check again. Sharky show up at 0:55 or thereabouts! I must have been distracted momentarily.

Hi, Sharky!

EvilHomer - 2015-07-12

27:20 are a pair of dog furries, I wonder if Boomer knows them?

Boomer The Dog - 2015-07-18

I'll have to go and look for all of the Dogs, I haven't watched any of the videos yet, and I have short videos of my own too.

This year was the best time I've had there in several years, we didn't equester ourselves in a party room, so I was able to meet more Furs I knew, Aerofox, Howler, Tycho Aussie, and others that just stopped to chat or for hugs.

They also switched the toney fish place in the hotel with Bill's Burgers, a more budget place to eat, at least on Furry budgets.

I'm glad to hear that there was more diversity in costuming and materials used to make costumes this year. It's bound to happen with many more Furries getting involved and the need to be creative and try something new.

Boomer

Theres a Furry club (furball?) that likes to join the Bothell WA 4th of July parade. I always cringe when they start hugging the chuldren...

The Mothership - 2015-07-12

baleen - 2015-07-13

thank you for having a face.

chumbucket - 2015-07-13

A fever dream

Hailey2006 - 2015-07-13

(Sing with me) It's the most wonderful time of the Yeaaaaaaar!
It's hard to sit through the endless parade of unoriginal wolves, foxes, dogs tigers, bunnies, raccoon, deer dragons griffins, Pokemon etc., plus the 5 or 6 people who are too poor/cheap/lazy to get a full costume
0:12 San Diego Chicken
0:57 Shark with legs! Classic!
1:14 Nuclear creatures
3:13 Trombone fox-guy and folkie bear
4:40 Orca guy
6:13 Hummingbird, there needs to be more birds at these things (also deer)
13:43 Just because somebody lives somewhere don't expect them to know everybody who lives there!

I also liked that bull guy with the bell around his neck near the end

Kabbage - 2015-07-13

I actually liked the bird ones, yeah.

jangbones - 2015-07-13

needs "Gareth" tag

rustedmutt - 2015-07-13

I love these. There are usually more than a few 'Clockwork Creatures' costumes mixed in--detailed and high-quality costumes-- but I don't see any of Miss Monster's stuff this year. (She's the best)

rustedmutt - 2015-07-13

Also the birds! More birds every year. Eeeexcellent.

memedumpster - 2015-07-13

Hey, a goat that maybe isn't postmodohipsteranime'd into another animal. Yes! Sharky is back! I live for sharky. Oh man, a Chuck E Cheese band, and a roadkill furry! Was that a gnoll!? Fuckin' yoshi, some blonde scruffy dude..., coon in a prison uniform that's racist... oh wait, bigot wolf, no, that's more racist. More roadkill. Juggathro? Holy shit, the Residents. Man, McGruff the Crime Dog, that desk job made you fat. Some kind of cheap video game knockoff Cylon. Hey, a unicorn, I hope he runs as a Democrat. Tony the Tiger needs to be HGH tested, that's not great, dude, that's not great at all. More roadkill! Is roadkill a popular kids cartoon now? Gumby! Some kind of sperm man. A black person! Watch out for bigot wolf. Male prostitute, man, your pimp must fucking hate you to make you work this place. More roadkill. AH A PONY KILL IT WITH FIRE! Oh good, Death Hamster, the road kill went that way, dude. A Street Shark, the lesser of the sharks. Another black person, thank god, now bigot wolf will howl about being a victim. Whoa, an actual prostifurry, talk about shameless, you have a sign. What. the fuck. is that. I think I saw a Cenobite. Boy, are those Shriners lost.

craptacular - 2015-07-13
