This used to be my go to movie to kinda pass out to when I still had it on VHS.. I still haven't seen the whole thing but must've watched the beginning part at least 100 times.

I also really like the preload image. I know 80s revival is all the rage right now and it's becoming pretty cliche but it's cool when movies like these get the attention they didn't get.

I was thinking about this when I was watching Mad Max Fury Road again.. I still love that movie but all Miller really had to do was go back to this kind of storytelling and pacing. It's refreshing and fun, but if it was released in any other time it'd be considered a B movie.

IZ, can you elaborate how Miller used 80s-revival pacing and storytelling in Fury Road? When I came out of the theatre, I thought the movie was more coherent and creative than most modern action flicks. Am I merely a victim of hipster 80s-revival, unknowingly attenuated to old-fashioned but ultimately bankrupt story beats?

^Definitely not meant as a challenge. Just curious to hear this perspective.

I'm not sure if I can necessarily put it into a coherent paragraph right now, but at some point movies shifted to heavy character development, even if the movie was a big Action Opera like Fury Road. The first example I can think of was actually Point Break. Great movie and great director, but all of a sudden you're caught up with the drama between Johnny and Bodhi as two humans and not just as Surfers vs. Cops.. this trend continued throughout the 90s and the wannabe Shakespearean-ness sort of overcame the fun, which Fury Road just injected the hard way into our collective consciousness.
