alright, i need to hear your doug opinions. i hate him almost as much as i hate charlie brown.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-18

I've never seen a single episode.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-07-18

Doug was a little weenie and only little weenies liked his show because they could relate to how much of a little weenie he was.

bopeton - 2015-07-18

I don't know who Doug is or why Garfield is narrating his activities.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-07-19

Doug was the pinnacle boring show of boring teens being teens with mundane boring teen lives shows.

Seriously, even Pepper Ann was more interesting.

Xenocide - 2015-07-19

Doug was a twit. Every fucking episode he's like,"OH MAN WILL PATTY EVER NOTICE ME OH GOLLY TIME TO IMAGINE I'M A SUPERHERO AGAIN OR MAYBE PRESIDENT OR SOMETHING OH GEE MY DOG IS COMICALLY INTELLIGENT BY THE STANDARDS OF NORMAL DOGS UH OH HERE COMES THAT BULLY ROGER WHAT SHOULD I DO OH WAIT ROGER JUST FELL INTO A BUCKET OF COW POOP THAT SURE IS FORTUITOUS. WELL, TIME TO HAVE AN EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN."

Nicktoons was crap until Rocko came along. Anyone who tells you different is probably John Kricfalusi.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-19

Season 1 of Ren and Stimpy was good but other than that the only good 90s cartoons were on Comedy Central and occasionally MTV (but usually those sucked too). Exceptions are:

Rocko's Modern Life (which I didn't watch but respected)
Duckman

Note the lack of Simpsons, because this is about the 90s not the 80s YOU SEE WHAT I DID THERE?

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-19

I might have to amend that, actually, because wasn't The Tick originally on a different network before CC picked up reruns? Also King of the Hill was OK, if overrated.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-20

It bothered me because the writing was so. Incredibly. Boring.

Not to mention offensively stupid in that it tried to be oh-so-hip to the 90s kids watching it by displaying nothing but 50s era culture sans anything interesting. Because that is realistic and up to date.

Doug as a character was a fucking pussy. His sister was a stuck up bitch, and yet the two of them never fought. Actually Doug never fought with anyone, he was too much of a doormat. He should have worn a sign saying "Nice guys finish last and that's ok with me". His bully who everyone saw as magnetic wasn't magnetic, his love interest was as a character just "the girl Doug likes". The guy who created Doug strikes me as being incredibly bland, and someone who never had to overcome any real obstacles and that shows up in the boring ass plotlines. Doug never grew a backbone, his daydreams fucking suck, and I'm pretty sure he's just an older version of Caillou.

Oh how I fucking hate Caillou.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-20

Also, much in the way that Patton Oswalt is obsessed with the cast and crew of Death Bed, I am just as obsessed with the creators of Doug. Like I imagine them high fiving each other going "YES. WE FINALLY DID IT. THE BEST CHILDREN'S CARTOON EVER. TAKE THAT BULLIES FROM HIGH SCHOOL I'M COMMENTING ON HOW I PASSIVELY ALLOWED YOU TO WALK ALL OVER ME FOR YEARS, WITHOUT RAISING MY VOICE OR DOING ANYTHING TO STOP IT. NOW I'M ROLLING AROUND IN PILES OF MOTHERFUCKING DOUG MONEY!"

baleen - 2015-07-20

Doug was after my time. I think my cutoff point of watching Nick was somewhere around Marc Summers's 9th or 10th reboot. As I was hitting puberty, I switched to Nick at Nite, where I learned of the many gifts of old TV. I sometimes wonder if I am the last generation to see those shows aired, and if younger generations will actually understand any references to Donna Reed and Patty Duke.

Sanest Man Alive - 2015-07-20

ROUS, I don't know who Caillou is, but when I look back now, Doug strikes me as an offensively bland cartoon knockoff of CWC from long before CWC was even a thing. All he's missing is a Quailman pendant and a horribly fucked up home life.

fluffy - 2015-07-20

The Tick and King of the Hill were both originally on Fox.

Also Beetlejuice and Eek! The Cat were pretty good, or at least I remember them being pretty good (but I haven't seen them in like 20 years because Nelvana refuses to actually release any of their shit in a form that people can watch it, so maybe they didn't age well).

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-07-18

Is the narrator Lorenzo Music?!

Hugo Gorilla - 2015-07-19

No, it's Garfield.

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-07-19

That is definitely not Bill Murray.

gravelstudios - 2015-07-20

When I was a kid, I thought Lorenzo Music WAS Bill Murray.
This could really use a Lorenzo Music tag.

kingarthur - 2015-07-19

I never watched the Doug tv show, but this reminds of a news report i saw as a very wee child in the 80s that mentioned Doug got his start as a doodle on a cocktail napkin?
