However much I might agree with the content of this, the guy is just Goddamn obnoxious.

Hooker - 2015-07-26

I do like how he complains that it made him want to destroy all massive collection of consumerist nerd bullshit while simultaneously railing against this movie for being cynically commercial. Like, this useless, insincere product marketed towards people like him make him want to swear off _all_ insincere products marketed towards him that he deeply loves.

infinite zest - 2015-07-27

He's right, but that episode of Futurama did the same thing and people loved it, at least according to this guy's description. I mean, it was a short What If Machine episode, but it was funny and based entirely on 80s arcade nostalgia.

And I'm sorry if your "nerd culture" has been co-opted by the masses, Mr Movie Bob, do you think that hasn't happened to everything I like too? Walk into the same Hot Topic, walk out with an X Los Angeles T-shirt and a punk rock compilation featuring such punk rock classics as Fallout Boy (not that they aren't nice people in real life) and go buy a Minor Threat T-shirt at Forever 21 for your sweetheart.

Get the fuck used to it. The barcade I used to enjoy for its pinball selection now has a line out the door and bouncers every night of the week like it was some Hollywood night club. Geek culture's a thing and this is going to be a thing. Maybe this will help you get laid.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-07-27

It won't.

Anaxagoras - 2015-07-26

30 seconds in and this guy has already used the "This isn't a movie, it's a crime against humanity" cliché, the "This thing embodies Lovecraftian horror" cliché, *and* the "I have no words to describe my thoughts" cliché. (The last cliché, of course, is always accompanied with several minutes of words wherein the speaker disproves his own claim.)

At this rate, this douchebag will run out of the world's supply of clichés before the 3 minute mark. In order to prevent that catastrophe from occurring, I bravely hit the Stop button after 45 seconds. Our supply of clichés is safe. But for how long?

kingarthur - 2015-07-26

You're doing the lord's work.

baleen - 2015-07-27

I almost submitted this based on the fact that it was viral and I hate this movie before seeing it and so on. I agree with everything you just said.

memedumpster - 2015-07-26

I think you just feel snark threatened by this person. He's an alpha-poe.

Xenocide - 2015-07-26

(Opens review with "I have no words.")

(Proceeds to talk nonstop for ten minutes.)

Stars because at least this guy seems sincere instead of putting on a cute little "I'm a crazy character" song and dance routine like Yahtzee and every other Youtube critic out there.

kamlem - 2015-07-27

I had to stop this horrible video after 2 minutes, but his "Really That Good" series of reviews I found to be excellent. For instance, his ghostbusters analysis talks about the plotlines the movie _didn't_ have, which I never really consciously registered before.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-07-27

Being a sincere manchild is, at best, a step sideways from just acting like one.

Xenocide - 2015-07-27

But POE was built on sincere manchildren. HAVE WE FORGOTTEN WHO WE ARE.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-07-27

You are not the same man I married, Xenocide!!

Crab Mentality - 2015-07-27

I get bashing Moviebob, and his catchphrase-laded criticism of this, mixed with the nerd-hurt all about pop culture grabbing nerd culture and mixing it into everything without understanding it, etc, etc. I think the telling part of it all is when he says he was tempted to burn all videogame memorabilia in his house- I just sort of phased it out as it got more cynical and mainstream, and I never had a ton to begin with.

Perhaps this is sort of the way punk became lame as soon as it got popular at all?

Regardless of everything, if you had Sandler and MovieBob, this is sort of unstoppable force versus immovable object. The latest shitty Sandler movie is a lightning rod for nerd rage. If kicking back and watching the assorted rage about subjects that we didn't care about in the first place isn't POE material, I don't know what is. One side is horrific lazy moneygrab moviemaking, the other side is screaming defense of the sanctity of Pac-Man.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-27

Total cost of this movie: 88 MILLION dollars
Total haul over the opening week: 23 million dollars

(endless womp womp GAME OVER sounds)

Xenocide - 2015-07-27

Actually, according to those leaked Sony emails (which are probably more trustworthy than official studio spokesmen) it cost 0 million after marketing.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-07-27

And Sony will continue to green light Sandler movies.

infinite zest - 2015-07-27

I have a theory that Mad Max Fury Road kind of killed any hope for other summer blockbusters' success. Even if you did find flaws in it and want to bicker over it (and there are some flaws) you have to admit that it's a damn good movie compared to almost everything else that's out there. To a guy who took a lot of semi-useless (but fun) film classes in college, it's fun, but to a person who might have been thinking they'd go see Terminator Genisys or Pixels this summer it could've been like eating LSD for the first time! Too bad this didn't work for The Mummy vs. Starship Troopers, but hey we barely had the internet back then. People are learning and that's great!

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-07-27

Internet critics are a plague on Mother Earth. They should all be rounded up and buried alive in an abandoned coal mine.

Monkey Napoleon - 2015-07-27

I agree with you wholeheartedly, with only the slight apprehension that it might somehow include all of us.

chumbucket - 2015-07-27

Another 30 words per second rant about another movie that "doesn't get me".

and Qbert pees.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-27

Why would you even attempt a Qbert joke after Wreck It Ralph did it so well? Oh wait, this is Sandler and he is the laziest comedian alive.

StanleyPain - 2015-07-27

I thought the fact this is terrible is why it was in the hopper which is why I voted it up.

The only thing that sucks more than a shitty cash-grab Happy Madison product is all the dipshits on the internet who take to the low-hanging fruit to try and make a name for themselves by being the ANGRY, NUTTY, KOOKY, LOUD REVIEWER GUY.

TheSupafly - 2015-07-27

Hey its that completely insane game overthinker guy.

chairsforcheap - 2015-07-27

the only review i'm going to watch of this movie is the one HItB does.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-27

I'm certainly not going to watch another one BEFORE they do it, I don't want to know anything about the movie before then.

Incidentally, Adam Sandler is moving or may have already moved into one of the rich parts of the town where I grew up. If I bump in to him in the future, is there a message PoeTV would like me to relay?

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-07-28

Ask him what his favorite character to play in SNL was, and then run off sobbing no matter what he answers.
