Love that scene. It actually came down to posting that one or this, but I went with the boots for the short & sweet factor.

My favorite part of this movie is Deja Vu.

This movie is nothing but best parts. The very best part is the concept: young Elvis helping the French Resistance fight the Nazis in Cold War East Germany.

It's been forever since I've seen this but I think my favorite part is when they're playing tic tac toe by shooting out the windows and then someone jumps on the grenade and everybody but the guy who jumped on it blows up instead.

it's....a joke

It's my goal in life to some day watch either Naked Gun or Top Secret with Evilhomer and film the commentary. I'm good at making popcorn!

To explain the joke further, it's a parody of a common war-film trope where the people escaping the Nazi camp or whatever would be crawling along only to encounter the boots of a soldier who then promptly captures them or whatever.

But what makes this a joke, rather than a standard war movie scene, is that there is no soldier in those boots to actually capture Val Kilmer. So you see, he assumed the worst (and so did the viewers) upon seeing the boots -- that he was about to be captured -- but it turns out that he misread the cues.

Additionally, it is unlikely that a pair of boots would simply be standing in a field like that, which adds to the absurdity and humor of the scene.

Also, Boots may have been the name of Val Kilmer's cat!
