Ska week for life

infinite zest - 2015-12-15

I grew up (musically anyway) in the 90s, where "ska" meant Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Less Than Jake, etc. so I never got into it, discovering Op Ivy, The Beat and the Specials among others later on. But basically "ska" was to me what Green Day was to "punk." Has there been much of a 4th revival, or did the 3rd wave suck so bad that everybody abandoned it? If so, some listening suggestions would be appreciated.

Ska, to me, was and still is No Doubt's first album.

Where are the Harajuku Girls? Ska Week cannot be complete without the Harajuku Girls... right?

Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard it but they were part of the same Berkeley/So Cal scene as Op Ivy, one going on to become Rancid and the other hosting The Voice or whatever it is Gwen Stefani does now. I always have thought that The Gits, or at least Mia Zapata, would've become the Northwestern Gwen Stefani, as they were slowly moving away from the punk/riot grrrl scene that they were never really a part of in the first place, but then tragedy struck so I guess we'll never know. :(
