She's kind of like Exene Cervenka to me: always kind of liked her dumb blonde impression on SNL just like X was one of my favorite bands. But then something just went "snap" up there. Like, political affiliations are fine. I couldn't care less if someone like I once liked turned out to be Republican; hell, I had to deal with Republican in-laws for almost a decade, but there's being Reppublican and being the kind of person that makes you think that Trump's not so crazy in comparison.

It's real. I checked. Breast cancer, Stage 3. Had a double mastectomy.

I can't tell if she's joking or not. If she has it, I wish her well. Certainly not a tactful means of announceing it. Granted anyone who shrieks out that the president is a Muslim while attempting to strum the ukelele is someone who doesn't care about tact.

Yeah it's real.. this is actually one of the more reasonable things she's done. A friend of mine's mom had breast cancer and announced that she was going in for tit cancer over Christmas when everybody was half in the bag, and that this was her last night of partying for a while, if she ever came back in the first place, so this is a better way of celebrating one of the most horrible things anybody ever has to face in their lives.

I don't like or agree with Ms. Jackson at all, but I do hope that she gets the care she needs and wish her a speedy recovery.

Hope you get better, and I hope you had the good sense to get medical coverage on the exchanges if you weren't working for someone who provided it.

I don't. I would much rather have her say, "wow, I guess Obamacare turned out to be a good thing after all, sorry I was such a tool". Cancer's a harsh road to that epiphany, I'd rather she got there via a less traumatic path.

I kinda don't wanna be bitter like this but as I see myself as a member of a more international community I am always saddened by people like Jackson who pretty much personify how people in other countries see us.

She's certainly not a walking advertisement of the best America has to offer, I'll give you that. In that regard she's something like easily 20% of America (and at 20% I'm lowballing it by a huge margin I would guess).

I may have pretty big problems with that 20%+ of America, but I don't wish suffering on them, beyond having to live under a better system than the one they call for and being confronted at some level with how wrong they are.

Let's be clear: she's been a fool, and she's espoused some terribly ill-informed opinions and helped perpetuate more than a few harmful myths running through our current culture, no doubt. But even as grotesque conservative mouthpieces go, she's far from the most malicious or wide-reaching. At worst, she's a cloudy amber swirl in an ocean of piss.

She didn't actually do anything to harm anyone though, she just got batshit crazy. My grandma-in-law had much, much worse things to say about Obama and she was still my grandma (in-law) when she had it. But she was still a human being.

Trying to take away people's civil liberties *is* harming them. Demonizing a group (or several) leads to their persecution, so that's also harming them. Being willfully ignorant and therefore espousing policies that are guaranteed to fail major problems (e.g. global warming, wealth inequality, racial bias in America, etc.) is causing harm to the entire country.

She did plenty to "actually harm" people. Fuck her.

Am I glad she has cancer? Not really. I'm indifferent. She, like all of us, is guaranteed to die. What does it matter if she dies from this, a car wreck, or choking on a pretzel? She'll end up dead eventually. The question that matters is "What did she do during her life? What kind of person was she?" And the answers to those questions are, unfortunately, "Nothing" and "A shitty person".

I've never felt that way, no. I just have always been slightly bemused and saddened by her lack of comprehension over politics and the need to comment on them.

I reserve cancer wishes for the execs at oil and chemical companies killing our planet.
