catnip overdose

Binro the Heretic - 2016-02-14

I remember watching this on "The Wonderful World of Disney" when I was about five or six and it traumatized the Hell out of me.

The cat's owner is a little girl. Her father is a vet who lost his faith in God after the death of his wife. When the cat gets injured, he opts to put her to sleep, believing she's too far gone to save. His daughter hates him for it.

Anyway, the cat was only comatose and when the girl and her friends stage a funeral procession to bury the cat out in a field, they're frightened by a woman they believe to be an old witch. It turns out the woman is young and sort of a Jesus hippy who cures animals with natural herbs & prayer. She cures the cat, but the cat has lost its memory and doesn't remember her old owner.

The atheist veterinarian and the Jesus hippy meet when they both try to shut down a travelling circus full of abused animals. They're attracted to each other, but of course the stubborn vet's refusal to believe in magic gets in the way.

Slowly recovering her memory, the cat goes back to the house where she used to live and the little girl sees her. The girl comes running out but the cat still doesn't remember her. It runs back to the hippy's house and the little girl stumbles & falls in the rain. When her father finds her, she's dying of pneumonia.

The father prays to God for the first time since his wife died. The cat shows up and he puts it in bed with his daughter who magically recovers. The vet & hippy get married and they all live happily ever after.

It's sort of "Heaven Is For Real" but with a cat...

"Heaven Is Fur Real"
