That guy - 2016-03-01

Jenny Agutter.

memedumpster - 2016-03-01

It has been too long since I've watched this movie.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-01

This movie looks dumb. The CG is crap and the robot doesn't even act like a real robot.

The chick is pretty hot, though; I'd give her an HB-8.

Cena_mark - 2016-03-01

You get to see her naked in the movie. It's rated PG!

memedumpster - 2016-03-01

Everything in this movie looks awesome. You're comparing it to the way things look in the real world. Fiction wouldn't exist at all if the real world wasn't the dumbest looking kind of reality. Less real is better real.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-02

So it's basically a combination of Malthus, Agenda 21, and the Wacky Molestation Adventure from South Park season 4?

I can dig it. I might give it a shot - well, by "it" I mean the remake, of course, which has a tough, militaristic female lead and is apparently being written by Bioshock Guy. Bioshock had some awesome visuals and some REALLY BADASS guns, so I'm sure the upcoming Logan's Run remake will be excellent.

"So it's basically a combination of Malthus, Agenda 21, and the Wacky Molestation Adventure from South Park season 4?"

No, but millennial incapacity to have any bearing on reality not a postmodern lolrandom mix of something already digested can be transliterated for, so whatever key of noises engages your motor neurons is fine.

Yes, it is those things if that is what makes you like it. If it must be something else for you to like it, it is those things instead.

memedumpster - 2016-03-02

Now that I think about it though, I might be able to make myself like things I like even more by remixing them into the vortex of my own sense of pop culture.

Logans Run is a Parlaiment Funkadelic album written by white people.

Oh my god, I am onto something...

EvilHomer - 2016-03-02

But the whole conceit of the movie is that humanity has been herded into a strictly-regulated utopian city, under the pretext of controlling over-population - isn't that correct? And grown-ups are euthanized at a ritual called Carrousel - again, is that not correct?

The first is (a subversion of) the classic Malthusian narrative, which re-surfaced in science fiction during the 1960s. And the second was one of the major plot elements from Wacky Molestation Adventure.

As much as cranky old Boomers might wish this to be so, art does not occur in a vacuum. Works are informed by the culture surrounding them, and if you have a hard time accepting this basic truth, then it is you who has the problem, not we postmodern millennials.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-02

"The ritual known as "Carousel" is a reference to the 1976 film Logan's Run. In the movie, people who have reached the age of 30 are sacrificed in the ceremony of Carousel, which ostensibly holds the possibility of "renewal." "

If you have any evidence to support your contention that Logan's Run "is a P-funk album", I'm willing to hear it.

fedex - 2016-03-02

strictly-regulated utopian MALL

Gmork - 2016-03-02

To counteract EvilHomer's blatant (and knowing) poor taste in literally everything.

"But the whole conceit of the movie is that humanity has been herded into a strictly-regulated utopian city, under the pretext of controlling over-population - isn't that correct?"

I think that puts the cart before the horse. The pretext is that the earth for some reason stopped being able to support life, so dystopian life support cities were created to maintain as many as possible in a stable environment, which means it has to allow unrestricted positive carnality while strictly controlling the negative. Carousel is a religious death ceremony to give the illusion of the completion of natural life. The only social argument the movie has is whether or not outside is habitable again, what they call Sanctuary. The knowledge is lost to all involved.

So yeah, it's Judge Dredd in a mall.

memedumpster - 2016-03-02

So it's a mall.

Bus_Aint_Comin - 2016-03-01

RUN, RUNNER

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-03-01

I also like to use that "Fish! And plankton!" etc. etc. line when someone asks if there's anything to eat.

The Mothership - 2016-03-02

It's my job to freeze you!
