I read the video description on youtube. I'm sorry to say it, but I don't have much sympathy for this guy. While he was upstairs filming the tornado, his wife of 25 years was downstairs. After seeing this monster approaching, He had plenty of time to run downstairs and try to get the two of them into some sort of safe situation, but instead he decided to film the thing, hoping it would miss them. Well, it didn't, and I can only imagine that she died alone and afraid without him. I'm trying not to be too judgmental, but it pisses me off all the same.

I've been very close to tornadoes. Coupla' things...

You don't know what you'll do until it happens, it is shockingly like looking into the face of God.

THAT tornado would have eaten a train yard wrapped around a skyscraper sunk into concrete. Unless they had a basement with a shelter built in (as in not just your concrete basement because that is sweet tornado pussy and I do mean a FEMA regulation shelter, which isn't cheap to build for two people), roll d100 and consult the chart for survival. If you have the FEMA regulation (not one screw less with every grain on the wood aligned correctly) shelter, add 10%.

I don't know if it's the case there, but Illinois has a lot flood plains, so they may not have had a basement, in which case the only options are.

1.) Sit still as the random godmonster eats your local area.
2.) Try to run as the random godmonster eats your local area.

Nothing you do will predict or alter the course of the tornado, the best method would be to get a long head start, but during tornado season good luck finding a place around one active tornado that isn't also full of random tornados.

It's just like the violent stormy planets in Star Control 2, the shit just hits you randomly.

According to other vids, the guy was 85 years old... so maybe he just wasn't that quick.

They're definitely not on a flood plains; in a related article I read that his next door neighbor had a basement, but she refused to go down into it because she's afraid of spiders.

That tornado apparently killed two women. One was this guy's wife. The other was the aforementioned neighbor. :(
