New Order > Joy Division

Old_Zircon - 2016-06-26 All I'm saying is I've got Unknown Pleasures and I've got Substance and I don't listen to either of them very often but there's one I listen to significantly more than the other.

That guy - 2016-06-26 Scarlett Johansson > Don Johnson > Bruce Willis

Old_Zircon - 2016-06-27 I think part of it is that New Order was never overhyped to death by the art school kids who made up 3/4 of my social circle through most of my 20s.
Ironically, this conversation is making me want to listen to Joy Division.

spikestoyiu - 2016-06-27 If you compare discographies, New Order is definitely way better than Joy Division
|
That guy - 2016-06-27 That art school kids effect is real and can make you hate anything. But I still think we're talking about whether ScarJo's album is better than Bruce Willis'.

Not nearly as painful as those DirecTV ads Bon Jovi is doing right now.

Remember that weird period in the early-to-mid 90s when companies were basically straight up stealing music for their ads? Like, if an artist refused, they just made some shitty note-for-note imitation of the song anyway and just dared people to sue them?
I remember someone doing a Tom Waits imitation and Waits actually suing them successfully, but holy shit that was everywhere. Remember those ads for the VW Beetle where they litereally just ripped off Little Fluffy Clouds by The Orb (right down to imitating the *fucking samples* of Ricki Lee Jones talking about clouds)? Oh god there were so many.

Spaceman Africa - 2016-06-26 That VW Beetle ad actually was The Orb

StanleyPain - 2016-06-28 One of the VW ads really used the song, but there were others that used a bizarre note-for-note copy. They did the same thing with Fluke's "Atom Bomb"...it was some weird re-creation of the song.
|
StanleyPain - 2016-06-28 Oh god...remember the pie commercial that used EMF? "You're CRUMBELIEVABLE!"
