dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-08-18

Okay but I like it rough.

Ugh - 2016-08-18

i'll be taking pre-orders soon don't worry, expected release date: december 31, 2019

bawbag - 2016-08-18

Will there be multiplayer?

Ugh - 2016-08-18

*sweaty smile*

memedumpster - 2016-08-18

So, if myself and another player online is train fucking the same one out of 18 quintillion gamers, will I be able to high-five them over the train?

Ugh - 2016-08-18

i don't have a short answer for that, but i can tell you this much: absolutely, yes

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-08-19

lol at self-hating nerds.

Herr Matthias - 2016-08-18

PROCEDURALLY GENERATED! TOTALLY RANDOM!

SolRo - 2016-08-18

'Procedurally generated' has been a phrase I use to avoid games for several years now.

It always means no coherent or enjoyable story.

It always means I will see some combination of 20 assets randomly assembled and frequently repeated.

"Replayability" means frustrating massive variation in difficulty levels based on random number generators.

poorwill - 2016-08-19

What games are you playing that have coherent, enjoyable stories? Every now and again someone will tell me that such-and-such game has an awesome story so I try it and find the stories feel like they are procedurally generated. Or just sewn together out of parts of movies and books that did it better. Also, people who think they're so smart and declare that they aren't interested in games that don't have compelling stories sound about as smart as people who won't read books unless they have pictures or won't listen to music unless it has lyrics.

SolRo - 2016-08-19

Wow. You are dumb.

Wanting games to have good stories is not remotely the same as wanting books with pictures or songs with lyrics...honestly it's the opposite of those.

If don't know -any- games with a good narrative that just shows what kind of garbage you typically play.

Gmork - 2016-08-19

Not impossible to find, but definitely hard if your standards were set by things like the Marathon trilogy or the Myth series (excluding 3 which was glorified fanfiction).

SolRo - 2016-08-19

They aren't common, but to say that no games have good narrative is just as dumb as "all games is art!"

poorwill - 2016-08-19

"Wanting games to have good stories is not remotely the same as wanting books with pictures or songs with lyrics...honestly it's the opposite of those." No it isn't.

Also - you stupid, fat, smelly fuck - I was asking you for some games that you think have good stories, not telling you that there are none, you shit-eating dumbass. When people say stuff like Metal Gear or Planescape or Heavy Rain or The Last of Us like I'm supposed to be impressed, it's just embarrassing. There are a bunch of games with decent writing, but they're not plentiful in my experience. Maybe you could help, you useless piece of shit?

EvilHomer - 2016-08-19

The best "story-driven" game was the Dungeons & Dragons DLC from Borderlands 2.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-19

Other games with good storylines, besides Borderlands: Postal 2, Europa Universalis, the Mortal Kombat series (excluding Armageddon and 2011), Crusader Kings, MUGEN, and Saints Row.

memedumpster - 2016-08-19

I was going to suggest a few, but " sewn together out of parts of movies and books that did it better" pretty much excluded my whole list.

Vidya garmes aren't as capable of narrative as those other mediums, simply because of the interactive factor. Take yourself as a human and put yourself as a character that does things you would normally do in any fantastic movie setting and it makes the movie worse every time.

The strengths of other media is that it takes you away from yourself, while vidyob grarmes make you interact with it, carpet bombing the possibilities into something you can feasibly accomplish.

Born in the RSR - 2016-08-18

So it's 3d Starbound with no crafting, or construction.

I called it.

badideasinaction - 2016-08-18

Oh there's crafting. And a constant drain on different resources for every device you use. And a very limited inventory at the start.

bongoprophet - 2016-08-18

I got exactly what I wanted and perceived. That must make me smarter than 99% of gamers.

Robin Kestrel - 2016-08-18

Man, when Spore comes out, it's going to blow this thing out of the water.

Chancho - 2016-08-18

I might buy it when it's like in a Humble Bundle.

Cube - 2016-08-18

Didn't Elite already come out in 1984?

endlesschris - 2016-08-18

Sure seems like everybody upset with this game lacked the critical thinking skills to actually read what it was about. You fly around space and look at stuff, and maybe collect minerals if you're bored. That's pretty much it.

endlesschris - 2016-08-18

Oh and I'm sure that Sean Murray guy is laughing all the way to the bank. Nobody forced you to buy it on day 1 you morons

Gmork - 2016-08-18

Y so salty

Ugh - 2016-08-18

murray is a slimy pipsqueak who bolted early and i can't imagine what cut of profits he wound up with after partnering himself with sony, dude has a way to go to hit the chris roberts league

Maggot Brain - 2016-08-18

Sounds like a... "relaxing" concept (fly anywhere) but you're just flying to the same brownish planet with neon accents.

bawbag - 2016-08-18

There's a fair bit of difference between planets tbh, in terms of flora/fauna, colour palette, weather etc.

It's not '18 quintillion' differences or anything but it's definitely a bit less reductive than most of the negative reviews are choosing to paint their disappointment.

poorwill - 2016-08-19

tbh i think all the silly, nonsensical animals that i'm supposed to be disgusted by look pretty cool.

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2016-08-19

The little scene at 9:50 got me.
