Interesting tags. Why not "lose hate AND lose weight?"

HarrietTubmanPI - 2016-08-28 I don't understand this either. It takes a lot of work to put on 200 lbs. It is going to take a lot of work taking off 200 lbs through proper diet and exercise, but for most people this is doable. It's not completely impossible. Physical exercise and getting in shape is usually the first thing you do if you want to live a healthy lifestyle. And, I guarantee you'll feel better about yourself if you don't have to carry an extra 200lbs with you everywhere. You'll have more energy. You'll be able to do more with your life. You'll live longer.
Some people make being fat their 'identity', but it's really not a healthy identity to have. Would we feel the same way if her 'identity' was an addiction to meth instead of an addiction to food?
Fat shaming is negative and doesn't help very much. That I can understand. But the fat acceptance to me is just dumb. Why support people's terrible life choices?

memedumpster - 2016-08-28 Harriet, because there isn't enough microseconds in a day to criticize the absolute knowing and willful shit state of humanity, so you have to draw the line somewhere, and live and let live is a good place to draw it.
Otherwise, you'd need an army of full time EvilHomers on six thousand mirrors of poeTV addressing every walk of human life.

I've lost 30% of my bodyweight before. That is not significant? It was a lot of sweat and exercise and I'm thankful for it.
And of course not everybody is equal, but on what planet would someone be 200lbs overweight if they didn't overeat? Or hell, even 100lbs?

Please believe me when I tell you that I'd hit it.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-08-27 My God, you did it with the original Fat Lady, the one who eventually sings! Gotta tip my hat to you, dude.

I'm confused. Is this a pet issue for Pillager?
Not fat is a pretty basic beauty standard.
|
Gmork - 2016-08-28 History doesn't agree with you, Hooker.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-08-28 They also wiped their asses with their hands, believed in god, and thought illness was caused by evil spirits.
Turns out they were wrong about basically everything else, too.

|
baleen - 2016-08-28 Be careful there, Gmork.
The whole argument that extreme obesity was once considered attractive hinges on the fact that it represented wealth in times of famine. Nothing about being fat now represents wealth, actually, it now symbolizes a range of personal attributes our culture considers undesirable: Lack of discipline, poor diet, obsessiveness, ignorance, and compulsion.
So by embracing periods of human history where obesity was theoretically considered desirable, you are actually advocating the same mass cultural belief systems that consider fat disgusting.
In any case, a painting of a fat Medici in a museum somewhere, a goddess figurine with a giant ass, and a handful of Peter Paul Rubens paintings do not exemplify a mass cultural appreciation of egregiously fat humans.
|
Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-08-28 Sorry, Baleen, no. I don't have to necessarily embrace any particular ideology to think that chubby chicks are hot: I just have to get a stiffie. And while I'm well aware of what my culture and the era in which I live think about overweight people, I don't necessarily have to agree. I can -- and do! -- have my own interpretations of those same attributes. People are more than empty vessels for the opinions prevalent in the time periods in which they live.

Gmork - 2016-08-28 "They also wiped their asses with their hands, believed in god, and thought illness was caused by evil spirits"
Who's "they"? I'm pretty sure there's more than one group that comprises "all of people throughout history".
|
Gmork - 2016-08-28 "The whole argument that extreme obesity was once considered attractive hinges"
I never said extreme obesity. Perhaps you should stick to what's actually being said.
|
Hooker - 2016-08-28 Let's replace "not fat" with "can read" and "beauty" with "competence": Can read is a pretty basic competence standard.
Would you argue with me that, historically, this is not true, Gmork? Or would that seem hopelessly besides the point and useless an objection and that you were offering nothing in the way of insight or dialogue?
|
Gmork - 2016-08-28 What a delightfully non-sequitur response, Hooker. Manages to sound smug and doesn't actually address or respond to anything I said.
|
Gmork - 2016-08-28 "Turns out they were wrong about basically everything else, too."
Also I love how Monkey Napoleon is actually stupid enough to conflate opinion with fact. Par for the course when it comes to fatshaming dipshits.

Hooker - 2016-08-28 Jesus Christ.

I'll assume the only reason gmork hasn't commented is that both his hands are too cramped to type anything.
