This doesn't look that bad. I'm actually tempted to see it in the theaters.

Maybe we'll get a new wave of big-budget Tokusatsu. I'd kill for a VR Troopers gritty reboot.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-10

I'm no fan of reboots but if they give Samurai Pizza Cats the gritty reboot treatment I'll see it.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2016-10-10

Frank Miller's Chargeman Ken! Make it happen.

Hooker - 2016-10-10

Counterpoint: this looks really bad.

Born in the RSR - 2016-10-10

Aw c'mon Hooker, this looks miles better than the 1995 one in every respect. Don't be a sour-Hooker.

Hooker - 2016-10-10

Oh, I'm extremely excited and enthused about it.

Xenocide - 2016-10-10

Kudos on making a $100 million movie in 2016 that looks better than a low-budget TV show from 1995, I guess?

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-11

Does it really look better? More expensive, sure, but better?

Cena_mark - 2016-10-10

This movie is going to rock they finally (to the tune of Cat Scratch Fever) Revive Zordon, revive Zordon, revive Zordon.

Hooker - 2016-10-10

I love how they make this is ethnically diverse as possible (which the original was as well, so whatever), but then the white guy is the protagonist.

Cena_mark - 2016-10-10

And the leader.

SolRo - 2016-10-10

I kinda thought the American original was stereotyping.

The japanese original just used colors for personalities.

They should have made red a strong black lead, just for bonus racism controversy advertising

poorwill - 2016-10-10

I wonder how the people behind the Japanese original felt that the American version made the yellow ranger asian.

takewithfood - 2016-10-10

Asian, and a woman.

Also, this just looks like another Transformers movie.

SolRo - 2016-10-10

I imagine they were more pissed that she was the wrong kind of Asian.

RedRust - 2016-10-10

It's never the wrong kind of Asian if your people make Pho.

Maggot Brain - 2016-10-10

The Chinese are going to eat this up. Did the Japanese ever do a big budget Power Rangers movie?

BillLumbergh - 2016-10-10

damn it, what's wrong with hollywood? THIS is what the original power rangers show looked like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MQ0rDcZAtw

so... yeah

Maggot Brain - 2016-10-10

Omg, why didn't they make that movie? With movies like Deadpool and Guardians of The Galaxy doing a campy, tongue-in-check Power Rangers seems like a no-brainer.

poorwill - 2016-10-10

idk man, Super Sentai could get pretty heavy at times http://buzzdixon.com/media/i-hate-you-ninjaman/

Xenocide - 2016-10-10

I also would have accepted "Mope, mope, Power Rangers."

SolRo - 2016-10-10

I also like the premise that the rich jock white kid is an outcast because he crashed his (dads?) truck and got detention?

Popular cheerleader girl is a rebel because she got in a fight with her clique and cut her hair? At least she didn't start wearing glasses, then she would have been REALLY ugly!

15th - 2016-10-10

If Hollywood has taught me anything it's that high school outcasts are very attractive.

kingarthur - 2016-10-10

You should have gone camp with it. Again: you should have gone camp with it.

Gritty reboot is not something that is called for in Power Rangers, folks.

TeenerTot - 2016-10-10

Do you think their new suits will be molded rubber with big codpieces?

Xenocide - 2016-10-10

Hollywood is obsessed with rebooting proven properties but they never bother to take a look at why those properties were successful in the first place. With a few welcome exceptions, they seem determined to apply the same gritty filter to everything they get their hands on and it all comes out looking the same.

The reason Power Rangers was such a big deal is because it looked like nothing else on television, wore its ridiculousness on its sleeve, and never even pretended to be anything but majestic cheese. There's an appeal in that, especially for kids. But this seems specifically designed to put modern kids off and annoy people who remember it from their own childhoods. Unless the trailer is a huge misrepresentation, they may actually have managed to make a film that appeals to nobody.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-10-10

Dear lord it looks even worse than I imagined. Holy cow. That cancelled animated movie trailer that leaked online a couple years ago looked way better than this.

But wait a damn minute. I haven't watched the show since the last time everyone else did (the 90s) but if my memory serves me correctly...weren't the Power Rangers just plain old weakling humans without any of the super strength or agility until they transformed? This isn't a Big Bad Beetleborgs movie people.

Xenocide - 2016-10-10

A Beetleborgs movie can still happen! You just need someone suitably unlikable to play that stupid wacky ghost. Jay Leno isn't doing anything these days, and it's high time he began disappointing people in a whole new medium!

Cena_mark - 2016-10-11

They allegedly had more strength when they morphed, it was just harder to show that without these cool special effects they have in the trailer. Also they could summon weapons. Otherwise it would have just been a mere costume change.

SolRo - 2016-10-11

Of course they got stronger, otherwise the transformorphagajizer toy wouldn't sell as well to kids

memedumpster - 2016-10-11

So they saw that gritty Power Rangers reboot joke video from a few years ago, then saw Chronicle, then saw a huge pile of cocaine, then saw a way to make money.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-10-12

I think Captain Planet would lend itself really well to this kind of straight-faced remake.
