Sometimes I watch this sort of thing for the unique flavour of bemusement it provides.

I think announcing the matches like they are boxing matches is a bit jarring. Perhaps they should take a page from pro snooker matches.

they are hamming it up more than usual in this because it's supposed to be the biggest match of the year and there is a big live crowd.

If you watch the Home Story Cup (which happens to be live right now now https://www.twitch.tv/taketv) the mood is a lot more casual and the announcers are more conversational.
