I love this series so much! Have it on DVD. What an interesting project.
I drove a car that should have been put in the graveyard across Seattle weekend after weekend to catch the episodes when they were playing them in some tiny art-house cinema in the U District. I had to back up a steep slope to get out of my driveway, and I had to take several running starts at it, engine screaming, before I finally inched to the top. Coming back from some episode, I let the clutch out too quickly which caused the transmission to seize up, so someone rear-ended me. Since I had stopped suddenly without any brake lights, I knew it was my fault, but she knew that the rule of thumb is the rear-ender is always at fault. There wasn't much damage, and we went our separate ways.
Shortly afterward, I was driving home from work and the car started screaming at me, refused to go into the odd-numbered gears. Lots of horn-honking and a pillar of black smoke later, I waited for a cop to drive by and call me a tow truck. I'm not sure for which episode of the Decalogue that casts me as an extra, but I know the Jesus guy was looking at me in silent judgment from the side of the road somewhere.
I'd known that car was gonna die, so I'd already brought my change of clothes for tai chi. They towed it away, I walked over to Chinatown to wait, and that was that. Days later I took a bus to the junkyard and I'd like to say I got the guy to give me $20 for the car, but I'm not sure I did that well.
