So, hang on. Is this actually going to be an FPS cockpit game?! What I heard, and I hope this is wrong, was that MW5:Mercs was going to be an isometric turn-based strategy game, similar to the MechWarrior tabletop system.
Because FFS, I just got my Vive the other day, and if this is going to be VR capable, my whole goddamn life's dream is nearly upon us!

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-12-06 HiRez still holds the IP for awhile yet, and I seriously doubt they'd be willing to make another Tribes game without microtransactions. The sad part is that Ascend is/was a really solid game if you don't count them.
Another game the world needs is a Planetside sequel without microtransactions and a worthwhile metagame.

This looks amazing, but it loses some points for not making you climb the actual BattleMech in-game.
Imagine if your mech gets blowed up and you ejected safely and then climbed up onto the bad guy's mech and then shot the pilot in the face and then took his mech, that would be sweet.

garcet71283 - 2016-12-07 Multiplayer was a riot. I still really liked the combined arms approach with the vehicles taking the sniper and medic roles in the classic class based multiplayer structure.
I was a boss at the aerospace skimmer.

What's sad is the best-looking Battletech game coming out isn't even a cockpit simulator, it's the one being developed by Jordan Weisman himself at Harebrained Schemes (of recent Shadowrun fame) and it's a tactical RPG.
Full disclosure -- I've got a friend who's working on it so I am shilling a bit.

if you know anything about mwo you will not get your hopes up for this.
A good team built MWO and left it with the studio, and they use it as a cash cow. They add new robots and sell them to idiots every month for big money, and make hamfisted tweaks to the existing game. This has gone on for years.
The reason there is no animation for getting in the mech in this video is that there isn't one in MWO and there never will be. They filmed a scene from MWO and are passing it off as a new game. Oh I guess they added some snappy dialog "hey kid, looks like its time to get paid, am i rite? now get into this robot" *camera fades to you inside robot". I wouldnt be surprised if this single player game required an internet connection, simply because they couldn't figure out how to strip that part of the code out.
If you want to play Mechwarrior 5 you can do it now for free, its called Mechwarrior Online.
