Ive been playing a lot too since my phone emulates everything up to PS2 just fine. As far as platformers I'd recommend Klonoa on the PSX. Klonoa had all the makings to replace Pac Man as Namco's official mascot, but who knows what happened? Also enjoying the shit out of Advance Wars 2nd Strike for the DS. The touch controls sure do suck though; anyone play on their phones with a little game controller attached? Ideally one that detaches since I ride my bike with music on most of the time and like just having my phone in my pocket, but I take the long bus rides 3 days a week.. anyway if you have one suggest away!

btw I didnt like 'super mario world' It definitely felt like an eagerly sequel made for rabid fans of an existing series.
1st level, I'm trying to figure out how to run/jump and then a bullet half the size of the screen wipes me out. I found it really really difficult + it introduces loads of new mechanics / enemies / stuff in every level, making it all unintelligible. ie: Is this new thing good/bad can I jump on it or not?? etc.
I suppose if you had been playing shit out of mario 1,2 and 3 in the years prior it would have made more sense.

I *really* enjoyed super mario galaxy initially, but then got bored cus the difficulty never ramped *up*. It stayed way too easy, felt like it was made for babies.

I played a bit of Yoshis island.
You know after playing a bunch of them I dont think 2d 'platformer' is much good of a core game mechanic :/
Especially these mario games an the likes, where it all seems to be about gimmicks and introducing new crap to stop the children playing them losing interest. I appreciate something like meat-boy, cus they take a few mechanics and really focus on them. Also the view is big so you dont have that classic sidescrolling issue of not being able to see whats coming up.

Thousands of sidescrolling platformers have been made, that doesnt mean its a good ganeral concept, its like 'FPS' just a known genre to shit out profitable crap in.

So far none of these console games have really moved me in any way.

When did they become indistinguishable from hipsters?
