As a fan of the comic book, I ran out to see it right away, and stayed to see it twice, before I finally admitted that it was not very good. The biggest disappointment was Howard's voice. I don't know who the actor was, but Howard sounded like... no one in particular. Joe Pesci would have been the perfect voice for Howard. Somebody capable of registering a little angst.

And the fake rock and roll ending ending, of course, was pure shit. Thomas Dolby wrote the songs, and he had obviously been blinded by money.

The most Dennis Millery role that Dennis Miller never Dennis Miller'd all over. Woefully and war-criminally Dennis Miller style humor. Pure weaponized Dennis Miller comedy.

Also, this movie will forever be Guardians of the Galaxy 3 to me. The tone matches exactly.

I loved the comic book. I'm a little sad that so many people think of this movie instead of the comic when they hear "Howard the Duck". That said, Lea Thompson was hot as hell in this.

Virtually everyone involved in this film's production besides George Lucas either suffered a horrible downward spiral in life, suffered a horrible downward spiral in their career, or suffered the end of both. Steve Gerber's wife left him, right before he got pulmonary fibrosis and died. Bill Mantlo got hit-and-run'd while rollerblading and became a permanent mental cripple. Jeffrey Jones became a child porn mule and got caught.

Howard the Duck is the Poltergeist of comic book movies.

I've seen no evidence that this movie is outside of MCU canon, and it would make a lot of sense.
