"Oh yeah that F-18 is dead"
is that kinda like "have to return some videos?"

you're ruining it for me!

What you just witnessed was a 100% accurate simulation of what is likely going to happen when Trump privatizes the air traffic control system.

I remember a time when Flight Simulator was the overclock benchmark, and was about the most realistic looking thing out there. This is 11 years old, but it looks even more dated than that.

How does this work? Do people actually sign onto the servers as ATCs only? That and this guy is like a more anal StoneMountain64 for ASims.
I don't think there is much more to it than that. You can play as ATC, and there is a little tower you sit in and watch the screens and direct the pilots. There are apparently groups that run their own servers and do planned events with someone as ATC and take it super serious.
It's just RP, and this guys whole thing is a trolling shtick. If you think about it... why does a flight sim even have multiplayer if not for RP? You can't shoot anything, the game has no objectives or quests or anything, there's no points, it's got no crash damage even.
He's got hundreds of these things. He's a real pilot, but even his handle is a joke as he was never in the Air Force. It's a piss take. The multiplayer FSX community even has their own memes: A common thing seems to be to join a game and tell people your callsign is Air Force One and start demanding things from other players like emergency clearance.
I'm not saying this guy is a comedic genius or anything, but this video is a bad example of what he does. There's funnier ones.
Check these guys out: https://www.vatsim.net/
they run a network of ATC servers.
This youtuber is the guy I don't get. He clearly considers himself a troll, but his method of trolling is that he does all the radio stuff correctly while no one else on the server cares. I'm not sure "knowing every FAA regulation", and "landing the plane really well" is being viewed as the sick burn he imagines it to be.

this one is pretty good, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwfYNjXkfXE
I'm not defending it, I'm just saying what it is.
It's written all over his channel page plain as day.
He made straight videos about aviation: IRL flights he flew, stuff about his job (aircraft maint), and some cool physical simulators he flew. Occasionally he posted videos of his Vatsim flights. Very few of any of these videos even broke 5k views, with a LOT of them getting under 1k.
Then, he posts a few Vatsim vids with weird situations where some humorous banter happens. Fast forward to now where he posts a lot of these "trolling" FSX vids because they get a few 100k to a few million views.
Oh, and also... his IRL aviation shit gets like 10x - 20x the views now.
If it's funnier to just pretend he popped up doing this from the start for no reason other than to get his shtick out there, then I guess I can't stop you from thinking that.
I wasn't trying to accuse you of defending it, I just found the whole thing really weird and couldn't figure out what this guy's story was. He seemed way too self aware. So thanks for filling in the gaps, sincerely.

What a nerd.

I dunno man, a dude doing some pro-level airline pilot RP with whatever trollish ATC operators he comes across is pretty great to me. He commits to the bit, him and the trolls making a whole scene as they go.
This shit made me laugh real hard.

This is like when the Trailer Park Boys played NASA mission control.
