5 stars for the king!

simon666 - 2017-07-17

That's really too bad. I was just thinking that I hadn't seem him post in a while and was hoping he was still keeping on.

simon666 - 2017-07-17

His projected life expectancy was 12 - 18 months around May 2016. Made it 14 months. Hope he and his family found peace and came to terms with anything lingering, during that period.

gmol - 2017-07-17

Condolences.

He was thoughtful enough to respond to my well wishes when he announced his condition. I didn't know him past his submissions and comments, he seemed like a really nice person. It is tragic that he had to suffer the way he did. Trying to end this with something more uplifting but can't seem to do it.

GravidWithHate - 2017-07-17

Religion always makes a lot more sense to me when someone dies. It's like fantasizing about winning the lottery. "Hey, maybe, you never know". Maybe it is just the beginning of something better. Maybe there is a reason for all of it. Maybe we see now through a website, darkly, but then face to face. Maybe one day we shall know even as we are known.

In the mean time, condolences, and best wishes out there to everyone keeping on keeping on.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-17

I got to know him fairly well. He is a victim of America. He was a smart man who languished under an unfair educational system, an environment that he couldn't leave, a public servant that was abused until he took ill, and suffered enormously under the greed and heartlessness of the medical situation. He was a nice guy, well spoken, interested in the lives of complete strangers, and a talented critic.

I'm bad around death. I never acknowledged his death to him, because I try to maintain positivity. Right to the end, he was in contact. He needed peace badly. I hope he has found it. Good man.

Anaxagoras - 2017-07-17

When you say "he needed peace badly", do you mean he needed respite from his illness, or respite from his entire shitty situation?

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-17

Everything. He put up with his shitty situation at first by making plans to leave the South, but then he got his diagnosis and immediately his shitty girlfriend left him, which probably broke his will to fight. Given a positive scenario, he may have won against the disease, but at some point the rest of the world got to him. He never expressed bitterness, but he did feel betrayed.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-07-18

Goodnight, sweet prince. The problems of this world no longer concern you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiQfhwWcDkk

"They keep filing past. It’s like each face was a sign like one of those “I’m Blind” signs the dago accordion players in Portland hung around their necks, only these signs say “I’m tired” or “I’m sacred” or “I’m dying of a bum liver” or “I’m all bound up with machinery and people pushing me alla time.” I can read all the signs, it don’t make any difference how little the print gets. Some of the faces are looking around at one another and could read the other fellow’s if they would, but what ’s the sense? The faces blow past in the fog like confetti..."

Gmork - 2017-07-17

Like losing a family member. Blow some angel minds, you flippy warbear.

Gmork - 2017-07-17

Overdone as it may be, I wanted to leave a nice quote from The Prophet here.

No, it's not "On Death".

"When you part from your friend, you grieve not;
For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.

And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.
For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.

And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.
For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and the sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed."

Le roi est mort, vive le roi

BiggerJ - 2017-07-17

Spirited away to the isle of Avalon. Said to return in our hour of greatest need. Arthur the First, the Once and Future King.

badideasinaction - 2017-07-17

Fuck cancer, I'll drink to that. Godspeed.

Binro the Heretic - 2017-07-17

The only reason I hope I'm wrong about there not being an afterlife is that people like Kingarthur have a shot at a happy comfortable existence in Heaven.

I just wish it could have been so here on Earth.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-07-17

No, god damn it. It seems like just yesterday he was posting here. I remember when he first announced his cancer, I was really hoping he'd pull through it. :(

Goodnight sweet prince. ;__;

Enjoy - 2017-07-18

Got to know him better the past six months. Three days before he passed, I asked him for his mailing address, which he sent along. I was going to send him a care package and never got it ordered because I was trying to think of what might be appropriate to send. Tomorrow I'll send his family flowers and a thank you card, care of PoE, a weird community on the internet who have an affection for each other.

Hooker - 2017-07-18

This really sucks. :(

StanleyPain - 2017-07-18

No words, really. Can't say I knew him beyond POE, but that's a long time to interact with someone. Pretty sure he went all the way back to the POE red days?

Xenocide - 2017-07-18

One of the best. He always showed such good humor, wisdom and positivity, even as things got worse. An example to all of us.

Here's to the king.

The Mothership - 2017-07-18

Goddammit. I am sad.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-18

His last submission was that epic explosion video in early June. His courage and honesty in sharing his ordeal with us made this a better community. I hope that, in return, we could offer him some comfort.

For ten years or so, the internet was something hopeful and exciting, and that all changed for me after the election. Its ironic that POE, which around 2006 was a site I would visit out of a perverse mixture of stubbornness and masochism, has matured so nicely that it gives me just enough hope.

Rest in peace.

duck&cover - 2017-07-18

Damn. I'm sorry. Fuck 2017.

SolRo - 2017-07-18

there's no point to the 'fuck 2017' tag if it only goes to celebrities we've never met (or even not known) and not one of our own.

poorwill - 2017-07-18

RIP

Crowbot - 2017-07-18

Fuck. Rest in peace, and one more fuck cancer.

Bort - 2017-07-18

Damn. I'd periodically visit his profile just to see if he'd posted something recently, to make sure he was still out there somewhere.

Anagramother - 2017-07-18

Logged in just to be sad with everyone else. The people here seem so interesting in this little pocket universe online- he was honest and rad about posting about it here. Sorry everyone.

exy - 2017-07-18

Well, fuck. I didn't really know him but I'm sad just the same. Thanks for the update, cog.

Fuck cancer and fuck this healthcare system.

gravelstudios - 2017-07-18

I haven't been checking in much because I have a full time job now, but I'm glad that I caught this before it scrolled off the front page. King Arthur was a real gem on this site. I'll miss him.

Born in the RSR - 2017-07-18

May he rest in peace.

bawbag - 2017-07-18

Rest in peace Arthur, we never knew one another outside of here but you're one of the good ones and your presence will be missed.

chumbucket - 2017-07-18

Well, damn. Good people leaving us.

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2017-07-18

Thanks for all your posts Arthur.

You always brought something good to the table and you brought us all together for Empathy Month too,

Ugh - 2017-07-18

15th - 2017-07-18

It's rare to scantily know some one, but by their words or maybe even their face, you instinctively and positively know that they are quietly on the side of the good and love. He struck me as one of those people. One of the millions of rarities in a unbroken chain of kindness, who's muted legacy trips a wire in our collective memories, making it all more bearable and fun. He'll be missed.

Dr. Lobotomy - 2017-07-18

jangbones - 2017-07-18

condolences to friends and family

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-18

Really sad to hear this.

betamaxed - 2017-07-18

Very sad to learn of this. And while this is likely already been posted to the site, this is the first video to come to mind regarding this event and I can't think of anything better:

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-18

Lots of great King Arthur material to post in his memory. He'd have appreciated a King Arthur Week.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-19

I knew he was dying, and I knew that he was kind, and that he responded to kindness. That was knowing someone pretty well, for the internet. He wasn't seeking attention, but he welcomed our curiosity and our good wishes. By inspiring kindness, he allowed us all to see kindness in each other, and that makes me see people I've been feuding with for years as real people and not cartoon bullies.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-19

Play so let's make it a king Arthur week. Please, Dissy, submit some shit. Don't let me make this about me. I will if you let me. It'll be your fault. JK!

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-19

I'm not one of those people who confuse debate and rancor for ill-will.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-19

I have always been hated in here. These days, by a minority. Before that, it was by a majority, and before that, it was by a majority who had some justification. When I first came to POE, around late 2004, I was out of my depth, no doubt about it. I was dogpiled daily. These days, its nothing like that. Even the people who seem to hate me have other things to think about. Its not what they're teally about. Its good to be reminfed of that.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-07-18

I think we'd all agree that the charm of this site is partially--or mostly--in the contrast between some of the intelligent, diverse, talented, funny people we have and the ridiculous content we feature. kingarthur stood out as one of the more mature, thoughtful voices here and always left me with the impression that he was a good natured person. We were fortunate to have him in our community for as long as we did and he was as much a part of elevating this place as anyone.

Thanks kingarthur

CrimsonHyperSloth - 2017-07-18

Aw Christ, like many others I didn't know him directly but I will miss him.

You deserved so much better man.

Louddetective - 2017-07-18

RIP, KingArthur. I didn't know him at all, but he was a presence here.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2017-07-18

Dude got his house destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and then came down with cancer. Life isn't supposed to be fair, but King Arthur was dealt a worse hand than most. Always a gent on the board, though. Godspeed, sire.

Nopey the Naysaying Puppy - 2017-07-19

I always appreciated King Arthur's thoughtful comments. I didn't know him outside of PoeTV. The people and the discussions here have become a welcome respite from the pointless commentary that comes from the rest of the internet. His voice will be missed.

Crab Mentality - 2017-07-19

Truly we have lost one of our greats. RIP Kingarthur.

Hazelnut - 2017-07-19

Really wonderful person. I hope against hope he's somehow somewhere able to read all these comments and enjoy them.

Bisekrankas - 2017-07-19

RIP Kingarthur :(

Coax_Current - 2017-07-20

Gone but not forgotten. It's strange to feel sad, angry, and yet so fortunate. I guess with that comes a duty to try harder to make sure people suffer less. Kudos to all who keep this community alive, a buffer against even the shittiest of times.

That guy - 2017-07-21

:C

RedRust - 2017-07-21

Man, that sucks. RIP King Arthur. He was a really nice guy.

Jimmy Labatt - 2017-07-23

I can add nothing more to this. An all-around classy fellow who will be remembered.

Aernaroth2 - 2017-07-25

This has always been a weird group, probably always will be, but very rarely have I seen it as a bad group. Losing a part of it means the whole is diminished.

Rest in Peace, Kingarthur,

uwoeh - 2017-08-03

I always enjoyed conversations with him even if I don't post much here. A really good guy.

Kennifu - 2017-08-16

Rest in peace, Kingarthur.

poorwill - 2022-07-17

5 years gone. wish he got to live to see how much he was treasured here.
