5 for evil of having alpha footage in your trailer that you put out 2 months before "release"
Mr. Purple Cat Esq.
Dunno anything about ogre, but in modern times, alpha, beta and so on dont make much sense. They really apply to big companies dev cycle and also to the times when a game had to be literally 'shipped' in a physical box and couldnt be updated or patched.
"A game in alpha is feature complete, that is, game is playable and contains all the major features"
Look at minecraft for example, according to that system its still pre-aplha cus they keep adding major features to it, even though its been playable by the public since 2009
You're using one of a very small handful of successful unfinished "released" products to cover for the Everest sized mountain of unfinished alpha or pre-alpha garbage that never gets finished because initial hype buy-in probably dies off quickly and it's more profitable to semi-finish projects and start new ones than to complete everything as promised.
or the other popular method;
Buy our pre-release game now for 49.95!
It will have features A, B, C, and D! They aren't all ready but they will be done soon!
6-12 months later...
Buy our expansion pack with features C and D for only 39.95!
Mr. Purple Cat Esq.
Yeah all that bullshit happens. My point is simply that the terms 'alpha' and 'beta' as regards game development arent really relevant anymore and are increasingly misused.

Also just dont buy that shit! Seriously what kind of fool does? If people are willing dupes then I guess someones gonna dupe them.
This is just like the old axiom of never buy a console early in its release cycle.

Steve Jackson Games have always been about awesome themes, absolute shit gameplay.
Ogre was fun for half an hour back in the 70s before good board games were invented. Then you quickly learned the game could be played by a flowchart and victory went to the better rolls.
