Hi Boomer! Was thinking about you when I watched this. Hope all is well!

Boomer The Dog - 2017-09-07

Yup, I'm all into this new Pup Star! I'd been waiting for the original last year and enjoyed it when it broke some new ground, but I didn't expect a sequel to happen.

I think it was produced in partnership with Netflix, in Victoria BC Canada, where lots of TV shows get made these days.

I've been doing well, latest was a reunion on Tosh.0 with guys from other Web Redemptions. Lots of fun, and I was glad they had me back!

But in the original Air Bud, Air Bud wasn't like a magic dog. He was an ordinary dog who could kind of shot lob baskets off his snout. This doesn't follow the original premise of "dogs doing human things" at all!

I know, the original Air Bud was a heartwarming family movie, but that was Disney, but I don't think they have anything at all to do with Air Bud Entertainment.

Now talking animals are more popular than family Dog movies. What I like about this is how the movie goes nuts with the concept, where all of the Dogs talk, and not only that, but they converse freely with people and other Dogs.

Traditionally, they'd talk to each other or to a special human who was in on it, but it was a secret from most, which was part of the plot, a pooch could be right in the room and overhear something and unravel a mystery.

No, this one goes all out, and with no great mystery to solve, it's like they just said, let's have fun with the talking Dog idea and give it all we got.

It fits though, Pup Star isn't so much family, it's a talent show for Dogs and for all to see.

There are some odd or cool details, like they all watch older televisions with tubes, no flat screens to be seen, it's always something like an analog Colortrak console. On Ytube, their channel is Air Bud TV, and I saw a vintage TV in the puppies' school videos too.

The movie has a mean Dog shelter owner keeping all of the talking Dogs in kennels. We were wondering why the Dogs just couldn't tell the police about it, since they can talk.

There's something incredibly horrifying about the dog mouth movements. I can't put my finger on what makes it so bad in comparison to other talking animal movies but it bothers me in away the others don't.

I feel like it's the animation, and they do the talking with a different process than Disney would, in Dog With A Blog, or the newer Descendants 2 where Dude talks this time out.

It might be the animators' choice of style. Of course some of it might be budgetary, but believe me, there's far lower quality talking out there!

Try the movie, give it a chance, maybe with the original Pup Star, see if you'll like the story. If you're a fan of Doggiewoggiez! Poochiewoochiez! by EIT, you'll probably like it.
