This one never really did it for me, of the classic John Waters period (I'd say everything up through Polyester) it's probably my least favorite.

Even my least favorite classic John Waters picture is still 5 star material though.

Five Stars for the amazing Edith Massey, John Water's second greatest discovery, who was somehow charismatic in spite of being ugly, and an effective character actor in spite of being downright wooden. In Desperate Living, she inherited a role that had been intended for Divine, the evil queen, and to the best of my knowledge it was the only time she played the heavy, a sharp contrast to the childlike characters she usually played, and I think she was wonderful. So, on top of everything else, as an actor she had a remarkable range.
