The one where they get transported to Noah's ark was abysmal. It hundreds of pages of human body odor description and abstinence preaching. You can't tell me that was for young children.

The author did have Christian messages but it's ironically one of the books that fundamentalists love to hate the most, citing that it has confusing ethics, etc. Which just means they are too stupid to understand it, or maybe they were just freaked out by Charles Wallace riding piggyback onto people's souls or whatever.

As a kid I liked the first two and hated the third. As an adult the first one is still pretty decent, the second one is forgettable and the third one is as bad as ever.

At no age could they hold a candle to Watership Down.


The series I never got was the Narnia books. Didn't like them a bit as a kid, didn't like them a bit as an adult.
