tl;dr: It's a shit show.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-12

I've read some reviews of this and the all seem to agree that it plays loose with facts but perfectly fills its role of trolling the shit out of the administration.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-12

It's up again here in two parts, probably for half an hour or something at the rate they're getting pulled.

Russia's lapdog boi over at Wikileaks has been pirating this and the book. Funny, though, how they never uncovered/leaked anything about all this financial crime Trump and his buddies have been up to for decades or even his tax info. It's almost like me and everyone else who said WikiLeaks was a fucking regressive shithole run by techno-fascists whose goals had nothing to do with "freedom" or "transparency" for years and years were, I dunno....right and totally vindicated now.

Can't say I'm a fan of Wolff, but for all his bullshit, guy knows how to usually cover his ass, so I would love to see him get sued for defamation, at which point he produces the audio recordings of all these folks.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-12

To be fair, the entire Internet is a regressive shithole run by techno-fascists when you really get down to it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2018-01-12

Politifact has a review with what I would assume is a trustworthy overview of innacuracies and lapses in documentation. My impression 4 chapters in is that it's far more objective and accurate than anything you'll hear from Trump, Conway, or Huckabee-Sanders... and Trump, Bannon, and Ailes seem more balanced and likeable as characters in a narrative than the lying sacks of shit I'm used to seeing on the internet. Its not the best book you'll ever see about these insane times, but it is the first, and right now, its the only one.

Trump is the worst President ever, but he's not the worst PERSON ever. His followers aren't necessarily stupid, but they are certainly compelled to act out in stupid ways. Nearly all of us have a share in this disaster, and unless we can accept that and stop pointing fingers, we're all gonna be in the shit.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2018-01-12

Worst president ever? Eh, that's a pretty harsh evaluat- nah, you're right.

Well so far anyway, it's not as if he he's done anything irreversibly awful yet like the last two presidents. I'm sure with time he will though.

Anaxagoras - 2018-01-12

Yeah, every time I see somebody claim "Worst president ever", I have the same urge to correct them and say "But what about Andrew Jackson? Or Andrew Johnson?" But honestly, when I stop to think a bit more, the label "'Worst president ever" probably *does* belong to Trump, as amazing as that is.

The US has seen several remarkably shitty presidents. But I think Trump has them all beat. See? There's something he really is best at, after all.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2018-01-12

There are several ways to make this measure. When I say Trump is the worst ever, it's meant as a measue of his competence. If he was more competent, (better) he might do more damage (worse), but the second part of that statement is supposed to be the lead. He's not the worst guy ever.

The premise of "Fire and Fury" is that Trump never intended to become president. He only meant to use the run to "build his brand". This view makes a lot more sense when you consider that when Tump declared his candidacy, there were more than a dozen candidates in the GOP field, and by any sensible, objective standard, he was the least qualified. Wolff compares the Trump candidacy to the protagonists of Mel Brooks "THE PRODUCERS", betting on a sure failure and somehow disastrously suceeding, because of an epic tragiccomic failure at just about every level of American political life,

from the greedy, cynical right wing media,

to the struggling mainstream media who saw Trump as a source of cheap novelty content and no more,

to smug urban liberals whose sense of superority made them easy targets,

to rural voters who say they're patriots, but who would shove a bomb up the Statue of Liberty's ass if they thought it would piss off the libtards,

to youtube attention whores,

to estabishment republicans who, to paraphrase Lou Reed, would eat shit and say it tasted good if there was some money in it for them,

to Democrats who didn't bother to vote, because Hillary had it in the bag.

to the fucking Russians

When you see Trump's performance in the White House, it's easy to see that he landed there by tripping over his own dick. I find it comforting to understand that he's not Hitler, who, say what you will, was at least a competent politician. He's more like Lloyd Bridges in Hot Shots, Part Deux, only not as cute.

cognitivedissonance - 2018-01-13

Never forget Rutherford B. Hayes, who ended Reconstruction because, hey, if you can't trust a bunch of Southerners to be less racist if they promise to, who can you trust?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2018-01-12

If you were to take all the presidents who ever served,---- and arrange them from Most racist, to least racists, I bet that Trump would be in the lower third, certainly in the lower half. People want Trump to be racist because they want him to be evil. But I think there were Presidents who were much more racist, but who managed to avoid calling Haiti a shithole. This is a problem of competence, and i think it's usefuil to see it in those terms. It's a huge waste of time to argue on Twitter about what is going on in Trump's heart when he's saying something stupid that no competent politician would ever say. The incompetence is the point.

He's dangerous enough, and he's a compulsive liar and a harasser of women, but he's not an evil mastermind. He's an accident that keeps happening.

SolRo - 2018-01-13

Nah the guy is pretty damn racist. This is the guy that took out newspaper ads calling for the execution of 5 black teens falsely accused of raping a white woman.

My yardstick of true racism is how much one voices and acts on their hatred rather than purely internal beliefs.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2018-01-13

Well, maybe My real point is that it doesn't matter how racist he is. I'm not willing to subject myself to one more completely subjective argument about how Trump feels about minorities when he's saying and doing such terrible things. The terrible things he says and does are what matter. If Isis kills 10, 000 innocent people because they hate freedom, and the US kills 100,000 thousand innocent people, it doesn't matter if they're doing t because they love freedom.

When I used to speak out against online harassment of Catie Wayne and other young women on the internet, I would be routinely accused of a weird sexual obsession. It was an obsession all right, it was often embarrassing, and sometimes it may have even been creepy in a sad, "Creed" sort of way, but I did a pretty good job of doing to right thing, because I wanted to play my little role in the formation of a better web. My main obsession has never been a person. It's been where this technology is taking the culture. Today my main focus isn't Boxxy, it's Trump. There's a pattern there, believe me. I'm all about the internet.

Maggot Brain - 2018-01-12

Who would have that Kellyanne was the most self aware of the bunch?

Accidie - 2018-01-13

basically confirming suspicions.
i think he's not as bad as GW so far, and that's saying something.

SolRo - 2018-01-13

What? What the hell are you smoking?

Chicken the Did - 2018-01-13

Whatever I'm smoking.

Trump is terrible. In every regard. But even with all his terrible I do NOT have the memory of a goldfish. I distinctly remember something about a major terrorist attack being avenged by declaring war on a nation ruled a -secular Baathist- who had nothing to do with it at all. Then by taking advantage of kids with 'I wanna shoot arabs!' revenge fantasies he threw these poor fuckers into a meat grinder. And all the while knowing it was bullshit and he was just trying to forge his own legacy by finishing

So now we have:

Thousands of fucked up veterans finding out nobody gives a shit about them except a cold, insincere "Thank you for your service." tossed out by passers by from time to time.

The heroin crisis. Once the Taliban was pushed to the side somewhat the warlords wasted no time getting back to Afghanistan's chief export.

Millions of dead Iraqi civilians. Hey, remember these guys whose country was obliterated for no reason. And this leads us to...

Islamic State. Oh wow this is so much better than the Saddam regime!

Refugees fleeing for their lives because us white people once again fucked over their homes. And then some of us can't seem to understand why these refugees are seeking us out for help.

So you could say the worst thing about Trump is suddenly people got distracted from remembering Bush and Cheney. Two guys that legitimately belong in prison. Of course if Trump sucked off the Russians he can share a cell with em'. But don't ever forget what those two did.
