I had forgotten it even existed but seeing this reminded menthat in high school I read about it in Psychotronic and it's apparently his official semi-sequel to Liszt-O-Mania, but none of the video stores in the area had it so I never saw it.
This movie got me into Mahler, and that’s good. To this day, mention Mahler around a Wagnerian and the mental gymnastics they have to do to hate him violently but convince you they’re not racist is fun to watch.
I love hat Ken Russel devoted a few years of his life to trolling Wagner's ghost, and I love how both this and Liszt-O-Mania manage to be both complex, historically literate treatments of the social history of the Romantic era in music while also being astoundingly ludicrous camptrash.
Those are the best kind of movies, Jodorowsky works in a similar way (especially Santa Sangre, which is quite possibly the greatest film ever made but also utterly silly).
