Youtube has majorly clamped down on the minimum views and subscribers; something like 4000 hours of watch time in the last 12 months and 1000 subscribers, which puts monetization out of the hands of most to begin with. And that doesn't include their more opaque process of content demonitization.

The economics of being a fulltime YouTube contributor have always been built on quicksand. The more videos people upload, the less valuable your videos become.

I was surprised to learn firearms kill about as many people as car crashes. I assumed it'd be lower. Statistically, one has roughly a .33 % chance of being killed by either.

It's one of the reasons I retired from my US job and don't go there any more. The American people are great; the stray bullets, not so much.

The "We should ban cars because they cause just as many deaths as guns!!" talking point is a favorite among the NRA crowd. Never mind that a landslide majority of vehicular deaths are accidents, unlike with guns where the majority of deaths are suicides and homicides.

As much as Americans love their guns, I doubt a majority will ever use them nearly as often as they use their vehicles. Think of how many times you operate, ride or see a moving vehicle in a week versus how many times you will fire a gun or see one being fired.

I mean, banning cars would be a great idea too. Imagine the savings in health care!

Just to be clear, I think the "ban cars" strawman is really silly. Millions of people drive thousands of miles a year, and it's crazy guns kill the same amount of people. After all, driving is pretty damn dangerous.

what I read suggested that the police were warned that she might do something violent, but they didn't act. Same thing happened with the Florida shooter.

Interestingly, she was questioned by police the same day (early morning/middle of the night) as the shooting. She had driven up from San Diego and was sleeping in her car in some parking lot in Mountain View, which, for those who don't know the Bay Area, is not too far south of San Bruno. There was a missing person report out on her that her father had called in to SD police. They questioned her and that was that. Hours later she shot up YouTube. What's worse is that her father warned the SD police that she might be a danger to YouTube; it was unclear that Mountain View police had anymore info than the missing person report.
