The manager seems like a dick, but dying retail outlets have a way of draining the life force from their people and turning them into monsters, or at least that's what I learned from reading some articles about Radio Shack from SB Nation writer and former Radio Shack emplyee, Jon Bois.

Nominal - 2018-10-16 It's frustrating because like Radioshack, there was no reason for Sears to completely collapse the way it did. It was a never ending string of terrible decisions from the top.
Radioshack decided ditching the whole "electronics" thing and becoming a pure cell phone outlet was the thing to do in an age where cell phone kiosks saturated malls.
Sears decided that its biggest strengths, hardware and automotive, should be sidelined and the whole thing turned into K-Mart 1.5, when the company already owned K-Mart too.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2018-10-16 Former Sears Holdings CEO Eddie Lampert isn't the main reason for Sears' decline - that started far before him - but a stagnant retailer creates plausible deniability for someone wanting to shit-hole up one's real estate before the subsequent clean-up and new tenant price-gouging. Business strategies like "fuck it, Kmart's crawling onto Big Lots!' turf" telegraphed Sears Holdings' ultimate fate.

jfcaron_ca - 2018-10-16 May companies hire CEOs whose only job is to squeeze blood from the remaining assets of the company by reducing costs while selling off existing stock and using up what's left of the brand identity. These CEOs are well-paid because otherwise they might feel bad about what they are doing. Same thing happened to many newspapers in Canada, and Sears Canada a few years ago.

A couple of months ago, my manager sent me & a couple of other people to our local Sears, which has since closed its doors, to buy up some of their used display fixtures.
One of the people she sent with me was our newest hire. They were being really rude & shitty to the Sears associates, ignoring them when they told him not to go in certain areas and getting angry at them because they got upset when he tried to grab fixtures that were still in use on the sales floor instead of the ones that were clearly marked for sale in the designated area.
I took him aside & explained we were ambassadors for our store (a military exchange) and that we should be on our best behavior.
"These people aren't military." he retorted. "They can't shop there."
I explained that they could be military family or at least know military people who could shop at our store, so he should try to act more professional. I also explained he should be a little more understanding since these people were going to all be out of a job in a few weeks.
"Fuck 'em." he replied. "They need to get an education."
I wanted to ask him what his education level was seeing as how he's working in retail just like them and me, but I didn't want to start a bunch of shit in the middle of a dying department store wearing a shirt with my employer's logo on it.
Don't be shitty to retail workers, especially if you're in retail yourself. There is no fucking excuse for that.

cognitivedissonance - 2018-10-17 Living south of Fort Lewis, salesmen immediately launch into their history in the military as part of their spiel. This happens in car lots, cell phone kiosks and electronics stores. As a tall, clean cut white man, they automatically assume I’m ex-military. Usually I ignore it completely and refuse to engage in small talk, which I’ve seen on one occasion lead a car salesman to rage because I wasn’t showing his “service” act due respect. So I left and never returned.
Military folks: surely that hustle is annoying?
