Everyone used to speechify about how you shouldn't trust the news, and now people pretend things were better when we did. I think deepfakes are doing us all a favour by accelerating our skepticism.
We needed the word 'photoshop' to enter our public vocabulary before we could finally stop trusting pictures. Our need for 'deepfake' is past due.
If nobody is actually faking videos successfully how does that make it equivalent to photoshopping?

Hilariously easy to spot as fake. Why is everyone scared of this? Even the voice is horribly digitized. Very off-putting.

I doubt I could spot a deepfake even half the time.
Yeah this is pretty uncanny-valley looking. Clutch Cargo mouth.
Anyway we aren't dissolving reality we're dissolving media, which was never reality to begin with.

I have trouble spotting these as fakes, but I also have facial blindness, to some degree.
This one is especially obvious in the preview image, where the entire face below the nose looks like someone ran the Photoshop smart blur too on it, and the color doesn't match.
