SolRo - 2020-04-02
Letting these radical conspiracy groups fester on the Internet is completely harmless.

Mister Yuck - 2020-04-02 Yeah, but what do you do about it?
|
SolRo - 2020-04-02 The private companies that basically run the internet can effectively ban them

|
Mister Yuck - 2020-04-03 Do you really trust Facebook, Twitter and Google to be the arbiters of political truth though? Even if you did trust their judgment, how the heck are they supposed to moderate the shit ton of content produced on their platforms?

SolRo - 2020-04-03 Choosing between facebook or cryptonazi lone wolves is so haaaard.
And it’s not just Facebook, internet hosting companies are the ones that knocked 8chan off the internet

Hazelnut - 2020-04-04 I agree with Binro on pressuring the platforms. Most of them already have 'no racism' and 'no hate speech' in their T&Cs. They just need to enforce them.
Of course, that also means banning SolRo from the internet.
He spreads far-right conspiracy theories (Soros is conspiring to undermine democracy!) and full-on hate speech (on Jews: "Ship them off to some island in the middle of the pacific, because they cant seem to get along with anyone but themselves"). Fair's fair.

Mister Yuck - 2020-04-04 I'm very skeptical that the platforms could really step on this stuff. YouTube is the only platform I'm familiar with enough to comment, and we've had a constant stream of videos from creators over the last few years complaining about their cack-handed attempts to enforce copyright and ad friendliness. And that's Google trying its hardest on issues that affect its bottom line. I really don't think they could do better.
The one thing I think YouTube could do is just eliminate the algorithm recommending videos entirely and hire some people to choose videos for the front page. That would eliminate so many issues over night. But it'd also eliminate the infinite auto-play Skinner Box that makes Google so much sweet, sweet money so I doubt that's gonna happen.

SolRo - 2020-04-04 Qanon is such a nuanced movement!
There’s so many gray areas to a bunch of schizos convincing each other to commit violence because of internet conspiracy theories!
And poor 8chan probably had some people that weren’t going to commit nazi terrorism! So unfair to ban them all just because of a few bad apples!
Hazel; suck my balls

Few things have aged as poorly as the government UFO conspiracy episodes of the X-File.

Yep. That's pure San Pedro. Fermented in trump juice.

And now Fauci has to get security after all the conspiracy threats.

I'm glad no one got hurt, so this is hilarious rather than tragic.
