My default: Usually musicals suck. Most often singing and dancing does not add to the dramatic development and story telling. It seems out of place and thrown in as an after thought. I think there are some musicals where song and dance don't get in the way, so I'm not making the claim categorically. But I feel like I'm on pretty firm ground here.

The music sounds way too cheerful. Ash looks like he was well cast and i dug the animated comedic takes. He seems like a good actor. I give props to anyone that does physical comedy on stage.

The dancing singing zombies look very Halloween costumey.

The masks and clothes on the deadites was designed for a lot of quick-change gags on stage, from what I remember, but yes, everything was very cartoony, with a bunch of fake blood (the first 2 rows were referred to as the 'splatter zone' and ponchos were offered).

The music was in general pretty upbeat and 'fun' (the song in the video, especially so, it opens the show with naivety and youthful optimism before things go wrong), but I think that was deliberate, to juxtapose the horror setting with musical tropes.

I had a lot of fun at Evil Dead: The Musical, maybe because it was pretty sharply written and well performed, maybe because it was at the start of the trend of "horror/cult movies adapted into ~subversive~ musicals", so the concept was still novel.
