Chicken the Did - 2021-01-02

I was thinking 'wow, this won't hurt what's left of their careers at all!'

And then 1:31 happened. Van Winkle literally went there. I mean I knew Winkle could be a legendary douche but I did... 'Not-see' that coming.

Not a good look, dude. I mean even showing up was not a good look but motherfucker is literally throwing out seig heils to the audience. They know this and they're going nuts because of the wink-wink nudge-nudge not being lost on them.

snothouse - 2021-01-02

I'm not defending him being there, but what moment do you mean, exactly? Singing "Play that Funky Music"? It was a song he covered on the one album anyone knows from him.

Chicken the Did - 2021-01-02

Yeah, but notice his vocal parenthesis around the 'white boy' part.

exy - 2021-01-02

Those parentheses are in the original, it's always seemed to me; it's just such a weird song. Not to say they're not also here, and in the cover from back when this douche-detection album was first released.

Fun facts I learned from a browse of the song's wikipedia page include: (1) the original songwriter wasn't credited by VIce, who had to pony up a half mill; (2) "Ice Ice Baby" was originally a B-side for PTFM.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-02

To be clear, that's not "The Beach Boys". It's Mike Love. Brian Wilson and Al Jardine was horiffied when the learned "THE BEACH BOYS" were doing benefits for the Trump campaign.

This is what Mike Love looks like nowadays. Better not tread on HIM!

If you're a washed up has-been with a soupcon of name recognition, you can get at least a bunch of Twitter followers, and maybe a career, by becoming a right wing shill.

Hell, it worked for:

Chuck Woolery
Ted Nugent
The Mailman from Cheers
Craig T. Nelson
Victoria Jackson
Pat Boone
James Woods
Charlie Sheen
Kid Rock
Who am I forgetting?

The last time I saw Vanilla Ice mentioned publicly was in one of those youtube infomercials for The Gathering of the Juggallos. He got equal billing with face painting, lower than the guy who gets shot out of a cannon.

Cena_mark - 2021-01-02

$1000 to see Vanilla Ice? I paid $5 to see him live in Statesboro.

Born in the RSR - 2021-01-02

I think the guy singing Sinatra is Robert Davi, but he's not a "has bin" hes a "never bin".

SolRo - 2021-01-02

JHM you forgot Kevin sorbo. Hell he even admitted that his kid is the right-wing loon running his Twitter, while he sounds like a gullible old uncle that takes everything he hears on Fox News as true.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-03

Ironically, a few minutes after posting this, I encountered a trailer for a new movie about God starring Kevin Sorbo on YouTube. The algorithm truly works in mysterious ways.

Old_Zircon - 2021-01-03

"Wild Cherry cover = 'literally sieg heils'" is pretty much strawmanning yourself.

exy - 2021-01-03

I didnt know about John Ratzenberger, that's sad. Sad enough I'm not following up with any research.

Meerkat - 2021-01-02

I was thinking when I move to Mexico I should get a visa where I could play bass for a classic rock band every now and then, like at white people weddings or maybe at a beach club on Friday nights during tourist season or some shit.

But then I see this and think no maybe Ima just sit on my balcony and drink margaritas.

Whenever Don Jr. looks into the camera all I see is that hurt, spoiled, pissed off little fat kid who didn't speak to his philandering dad for almost a decade.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-03

I just learned that Eric Trump tweeted "Get out and vote, Michigan!", on November 10, a week after election day. I literally can't think of an explanation for how that could happen, not even extreme stupidity.

So I don't know, maybe it didn't happen.

exy - 2021-01-03

It happened. Nothing happened because of it, of course, but it was a lovely little blip.

themilkshark - 2021-01-03

This was fun to watch. There's a neat irony to Van Winkle signing to a trustfund crowd of Gen-Xers and the Boomers who created him, and of course leading them all to sing about white boys playing funky music until they lay down and die.
