That's so fucked but so typical. Veganism to some is like the Apple products of the culinary world. Maybe bad analogy because I do concur veganism would have countless health benefits. But that whole "Look at me, I can do this because I'm not poor! \o/!!!" is a bigger motivator than let's say animal rights and health issues. It's the same reason in China you have to suck down shark fin soup. It's not the point of it tasting good. (It tastes like shit supposedly.) But it's a signal that your station has been raised to the point where you -can- afford it and now you are doing something the peasants can not. Very important to show you are no damned peasant!

Shark fin soup is the same as birds nest soup; all the flavor is in the broth and the actual main ingredient is a flavorless status symbol.

@OZ I have no problem with vegans (was vegan / vegetarian for about 8 years), but after skimming her channel my political kitchen ire overrides whatever asinine point she is trying to make here.

She seems to be a substitutionist vegan, and if the mental laziness from that style of cookery matches her political wherewithal, "self-superiority is more important than actual social change" definitely tracks.
