It's incredibly physically and emotionally draining work. I had girlfriend who worked at one; she got close with many of the residents and then a bunch of them died and she relapsed on her alcoholism. Cool and good times.

Most of the people working there were not super well trained. CNAs, I think. It was a month long course that the facility paid for if you agreed to work for them for a set period of time. Really high turn over because it was hard, gross, emotionally difficult, and poorly paid. Some good people that went above and beyond for the residents, but not compensated, trained, staffed, or supported nearly enough to adequately take care of people.

It is what it is. The term for "the garment you wear when age has deprived you of the ability to control your bodily functions" is going to have embarrassing and derogatory connotations because wearing such a garment is a humiliating part of aging. Creating a euphemism doesn't help.

Briefs is already the word for form-fitting legless underwear, no? I agree with Mister Yuck, it's a euphemism and helps nothing.

We could try to steer society towards a healthier approach to aging (and dying) so that it's not a humiliation.
