Fuck Jerry Lewis

casualcollapse - 2021-05-28

Also that joke Data was about to tell is incredibly racist

Cena_mark - 2021-05-30

What's wrong with Jerry Lewis? He was a comedy legend and raised so much money for MDA

Two Jar Slave - 2021-05-28

People who whine about Star Trek Discovery should treat themselves to this one, Code of Honor, Irish Planet, DS9's transphobic comedy episode, etc. etc.

Still gonna whine about Star Trek Discovery.

Even when this show was shitty, at least the characters and actors likable.

Two Jar Slave - 2021-05-28

I guess I'm in the minority of '90s Trekkies in that I find several of Disco's characters and actors pretty likeable: the touchy Engineer, Doug Jones's Cow Monster, Tig Notaro, Cyborg Redhead, sometimes Evil Michelle Yeoh. Even Michael Burman grew on me this last season. Last season had a better-than-they-should-be Pike & Spock too. I mean there's no breakout on the level of Data or Picard, but it's alright.

Care to give an episode number and season?

This is like when people defended the Star Wars prequels by saying Luke was just as whiny and annoying by pointing to the "power converters" scene.

Wait, are you talking about the episode where Quark gets a sex change? That was one of the best episodes. Quark gets a taste of his own medicine. That episode made fun of misogyny. It was hilarious because Quark was so proud of how he treated women as nothing more than sex objects and then he had to become one.

This is silly, Discovery is dumb.

Profit and Lace is definitely cringe-worthy in parts and it's a very 90s pop understanding of gender & sex (i.e. transphobic as you say), but it does have some awesome moments. It's one of the episodes where Rom's true personality comes through on its own and it's not just subsumed by his brother.

I just can't stand modern TV in general, too much OMG EXCITEMENT AND DRAMA when it just feels forced, Disco is part of that. Some of the most exciting parts of TNG were just people walking down a corridor to an important meeting or something, because you actually bought in to how important it was. Maybe the overly expensive (for TV) special effects made them focus on story and theme a bit more? Cheap effects were one of the downfalls of later DS9 where it just turned into lazers pew pew (another was melodrama).

Code of Honor was just terrible, but the outfits were awesome. Women at Warp renamed that episode "The Worst Wakandans".

The problem is Kurtzman & Co.

The absolute worst of 20th century trek still doesn't compare.

Nominal - 2021-05-31

Was Andrew Dice Clay not available?

Raggamuffin - 2021-05-31

Memory Alpha says it was originally going to be Jerry Lewis himself, but for a schedule thing.
