As I've said a million times, I'm happy with incremental progress. What we mostly are offered, however, is not "things get better step by step," it's "things get worse a little more slowly." (or, "things get worse at the same rate but we pretend to care") Given how dire things are on, say, climate (or criminal justice, the gini, higher ed, labor protections, infrastructure, healthcare, immigration, Palestine, finance, etc. etc.) this is not a sustainable course of action.

This seems like a pretty straightforward point. I don't know why no one wants to engage with it. All I get are the same handful of thought terminating cliches ("everything short of perfection/revolution just isn't good enough for you!" is a classic) and frothy spittle.

Again, it's similar to the political engagement style of the worst Trump republicans, and it really makes me sad and worried to see people left of center retreat into politics that can't deal with heterodox opinions and is based primarily on smug Manichean oppositionalism rather than the desire to achieve any improvement in people's lives.

Hey, I'll admit I'm wrong if you can tell me what incremental progress has been made on healthcare under the Biden administration. Surely, during an unprecedented public health emergency and the democrats holding congress and the presidency they took some concrete steps to make sure people are able to go to the doctor without going bankrupt. Surely, given the popularity of medicare for all and the importance voters place on healthcare, they've done something they can point to in the midterms as a small but real measure that improved the lives of voters! Surely!

Just tell me what it was and I'll shut right up.
