A simple dipole antenna like the one used here has no gain; one could use a high gain antenna from much further away, if one was able to point it accurately.

Where does ethernet cable come into it? They said the machine was not connected to anything? Does it have an ethernet cable hanging out the back for no reason?

This looks like the venerable 'Van Eck phreaking' where they pick up the radio waves leaking out of the monitor signal, they're easy to pick out cus that signal has this consistent signature refresh rate.

No internet does not mean not connected to anything. They imply, but do not state, that the secret machine is on a LAN.

And yeah, ethernet has a consistent data rate too.

How do you connect that "simple $1 antenna" to the laptop? WiFi dongle? RTL-SDR? Also how can typing on a text editor transmit the data through the Ethernet cable? Does that PC also happen to be running a live keylogger too?

I'm not disputing the possibility of Ethernet cables leaking data that can be intercepted, but this video is leaving out quite a few details.
