Obviously that single number doesn't capture everything, but I do think it's useful to look at actual data so as not to be distracted by narrative and spin. To summarize: some things are blocked by the filibuster, but there are a lot of things that could be done with executive action and just aren't (student loan debt, descheduling pot, etc.), there are also actions entirely internal to the Democratic party that could be taken such as disciplining supposedly wayward members, and there is also use of the bully pulpit to focus attention on party priorities to create pressure that isn't being done.

So, teeth, why don't you dig into your vast civics knowledge and provide a reason (other than party corruption or ineffectiveness) why Manchin isn't being stripped of his committee chair for singlehandedly preventing what is, realistically, our very last chance to do anything at all about climate change.

This is one of the things that I find frustrating about centrists. They represent themselves as pragmatic wonky realists, but don't actually seem to have much knowledge of how things work, or seem to care about getting things accomplished. Personally, I will freely confess that I don't know how Manchin holds onto his chairmanship, though I'm not sure that it has anything to do with how he votes in the full senate, and I'm certain that crackersmack's belief that he wouldn't have his chairmanship under a Sanders administration is total nonsense; the Senate is a completely different branch of government.

John the reason that Manchin and Sinema are still on their committees is that they are giving cover to many, many more elected Democrats that are significantly to the right of the people that voted for them. You don't have just two bad apples, it's most of the caucus.

The president is de facto leader of the party he belongs to. The senate majority leader has the power to remove a senator from a committee, which would significantly impact their ability to get bribes, and in Manchin's case would probably end up costing him his $500k per year coal industry side job since he couldn't easily affect coal policy anymore.

And yes the senate is a different branch of government, under control of the same political party in this case. Are you saying Schumer wouldn't take Biden's call?
