I expect that more skilled readers of English will fare better. Obviously the reason why Orrin Hatch doesn't seem so bad "anymore" is that he was a Republican of the pre-Trump era. This doesn't make him a great statesman or anything, it just makes him somewhat less objectionable than Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert or Matt Gaetz. It's a mighty low bar, and I'll stand by that evaluation.
