The history of Russia and Ukraine (a former part of the USSR) vs Russia and Sweden and Finland (historic foes of Russia), their respective strategic and economic importance to Russia, and the context of the decision now vs. a few months ago (when Russia wasn't bogged down in war and sanctioned) are very different.

You can reasonably claim that NATO expansion wasn't a good reason for Russia to invade Ukraine and do a bunch of war crimes, but it's really strange to claim that this why they decided to do so.

Case in point Russia created a pretty clear if->then scenario for Finland's NATO membership being a problem: IF military installations of NATO were made in Finland then there would be prpblems.. Fact: absolutely no NATO bases or installations were ever made in Ukraine. So, why is the creation of bases AND NATO membership a problem in Finland, but even seeking to join NATO is apparently such a threat in Ukraine's case that it is at all a reasonable cause for war?
The obvious explanation here is that the NATO justification for war was a false claim from the start much like the denazification claim was also a hoax.
