The dou-dou-dou sound is a by-product of the 1970s vintage current-chopper. The three audible frequencies are caused by the incremental increase of current to the motor. The modern cars fake it with a recording and use it as a door closing warning.
I've seen several heroin/homeless on the metro with rats for pets. I suspect that rat is worried about its master.

I deal with junkies and meth heads all the time. You have no power to fix them and if you had an appropriate sympathy reaction you'd shut down. Finding them funny is a perfectly fine defense mechanism.
