popsicle gluttony is a perfect metaphor for streaming services.

empty sugars and dyes providing a cheap high with a cancer after-taste

casualcollapse - 2022-06-06

it's no different than cable, you will always have to look and know what shows are not trash

Every populist rant on south park will always be contradictory due its libertarian dipshit creators.

casualcollapse - 2022-06-07

Parker and Stone are often speculated to be libertarians. In an interview documented by the Rolling Stone in 2004, they both contended that the libertarian label which had been applied to them in recent years was not entirely appropriate.[4] During an appearance on The Charlie Rose Show,[5] Stone said that they "just play devil's advocate all the time", personifying both sides of the argument and taking "a little funny way out" to differ from the Hollywood liberals in the acting community.

take from that what you will

They absolutely do have libertarian leanings (Starbucks was just an honest small store that offered a better product!).

But a more accurate label would be "Overton suckers". Having the solution always be a middle ground always plays into the hand of the more extreme, shitty argument.

Why don't we laugh anymore? We used to laugh here. I know I'm not crazy. I remember a specific era of POE where there was laughter.

SolRo - 2022-06-08

We got old and bitter.

SolRo - 2022-06-08

That and this isn't funny other than that throwaway joke at the end.

Quad9Damage - 2022-06-14

Yeah, but POE used to be about laughing at people's dumb websites, silly news, and videos. Now every comment section here turns into a political quagmire. Not that there weren't political quagmires back in POE's golden age, but they were funny, the kind that got bulbs. It's a reflection of our times, I guess.

And on the subject of South Park, at the very least Matt and Trey were able to acknowledge that climate change is a real thing. The whole special, in particular, is about how ManBearPig is going to kill us all while corporations capitalize on humanity's water supply. It ends with a grim cliffhanger that is a metaphor for everything going to piss within the next few decades.

Whenever the two of them do social commentary it just always strikes me as though it’s two disinterested rich people trying to have a talk with “the help” at a party after they got bored of talking to other rich people.

They may have some grasp of the situation involved but they never discuss it as though they have any stake in the matter, because they’re so rich that they have no stake in most matters that affect us poors.

It’s easy to make fun of both sides of an important social issue when you’re on neither side. And while you don’t need to pick a side for trivial things like sports. When it’s stuff like global warming, poverty, 2004 election etc. then it makes a difference.

Crackersmack - 2022-06-07

if you want to see South Park now you have to sign up for one of the second-tier network streaming services

casualcollapse - 2022-06-07

I PIRATE NON STOP

Crackersmack - 2022-06-07

I reinstalled utorrent a while ago but there is nothing I even want to download

Quad9Damage - 2022-06-08

Yeah, it sucks. Trying to watch South Park over the last several years has been an endless chase. First it was on Hulu when there were literally two streaming services to pick from, Netflix and Hulu. Then it jumped to Comedy Central's website. Then the only place to find it was HBO Max, minus five episodes you have to pirate if you ever want to watch them again (because they have also been removed from the goddamned DVDs and Blu-rays, I'm told). Then came the 'specials,' which required a Paramount Plus subscription. We got a password from my in-laws for that because let's face it, nobody wants to pay more money for another streaming service when the entire country is broke.

The TV episodes themselves are still on HBO Max for now, except the new seasons are very short and their season finales are 'specials' that are on the other place. You can also catch the same repeated loop of episodes on Pluto TV. Barring that, I guess you could just pay for a subscription cable (hahaha) and checkbox paying extra for the Viacom tier package (hahahahaha) if you want to catch South Park again.

That's my rant. Unlike Butters, I don't have any energy right now. I stayed awake after taking a Cold & Flu PM.

Crackersmack - 2022-06-08

it always struck me as really weird that one day Comedy Central just decided to stop being a real channel, seemed like it was trying hard up until that point

casualcollapse - 2022-06-09

Hey cs if you ever do find stuff you want to download and stream to your smart TV, I highly suggest paying for real debrid versus paying for a VPN, it is much more useful
