I'm disappointed they didn't mention the role that insurance companies play in this; in Florida they will force you to replace an otherwise perfectly good shingle roof when it passes an arbitrary age to keep your insurance coverage, which you need to keep your mortgage. So every 20-25 years you have to battle your insurance company to postpone removal and disposal of a whole roof of asphalt shingles for no reason at all.
