People who were possibly already in the USCIS program and waiting for an asylum city to accept them were intercepted by a a fixer who went by the name "Perla".

Perla was paying other immigrants (in small cash fees or McDonald's gift cards) to convince people to get on a plane that they were told was going to Boston, where they would be met with accommodations, expedited work papers, job opportunities, English lessons, etc.

Instead they were flown to Florida with a videographer, then to MV for a "HA HA OWNING THE LIBS" moment.

Its beyond human trafficking, and fucking indefensible.

As someone who has gone through USCIS to immigrate to the US, I can say what was done to them was predatory. These people were put into the USCIS system with falsified random homeless shelter addresses. They were shipped to Martha's Vineyard on Wednesday night, but some of them had USCIS/ICE appointments at these fake addresses - across the country in Washington state - the following Monday.

Missing your USCIS/ICE appointment is a huge fucking deal, and could have destroyed any chance they had of properly going through the system. To try and trick these people doing their best to go through the system like that if completely fucked up.

Your claims concerned me enough to research this further. According to the NYT the addresses of 'random' homeless shelters were entered by federal agents. Apparently it's standard practice to list the address of a homeless shelter in the city that the immigrant claims to be traveling to, if that immigrant does not have an address in that city to provide the agents when they are being taken into custody. Nobody had any appointments that they were at risk of missing; they don't happen that fast. These people are all recent arrivals.

This is a political stunt by Republicans to expose the hypocrisy of the Democrats' policy of open borders, but Democrats don't actually have a policy of open borders. and so that just adds a layer of dishonesty and a layer of stupidity to the cruelty, the exploitation and the grandstanding. Cracker, I'm not sure where you got all of your information. The predatory part of what Desantis' did was sending these people to another geographical location where it would be costly/ impossible to actually make those ICE check-in appointments (which again, not sure why you're saying they didn't have those.)

Crack the pandemic is over, those federally distributed funds need to be responsibly redirected. Would they not be better spent on improving law enforcement - with its myriad inadequacies exacerbated by the conditions of the pandemic - over toll holidays?
