Strictly-speaking all you need to get video out of any audio source is a TV which is accepting of a crappy sync. This won't work on a modern TV, for example. Also the video itself isn't particularly impressive, except for where the frequency of the sound just happens to line up pretty well with the frequency of the raster scan.

A bit more success could be had by mixing the audio signal with a generated sync signal (which I think you can do with a short pulse at 59.97Hz for vertical and at some other frequency which I forget for horizontal) though it'll still just basically be static which kinda-sorta represents the waveform of the sound.

BUT, that looks like a modern TV. The only TVs I've ever gotten to accept straight audio were far too old to have onscreen menus/text, at any rate.

It's technically very simple yet aesthetically interesting which, in my book, makes it good.
