Today is Daniel Ash's Birthday.
His guitar is the part that rocks this song out the box.
(even if it is one of those fucked up gimmick looking thin ones.)
It's sometimes hard to remember how good this tune was when you hear it endlessly overplayed in smoky clubs with dipshit, clove-stinking goths screaming the lyrics over the sound system.
This also used to be my ringtone owing to the fact that the icon for an ended call was a coffin falling over into a blood stain (the phone just came like that...I didn't customize anything).
So I have this tape with Bauhaus doing a cover of Ziggy Stardust and then Erasure and then XMal Deutschland and every now and then I play it and pretend I'm bipolar.
Imagine the old days before Hot Topic, when there was just that one intriguing goth girl at school, in the pseudo-victorian outfit she had to make herself...
The Hot Topic goths HATED the one real goth girl at our school. One of the memories that sticks out strongest in my mind from highschool was the one day my friend Renee "explained" to me:
"I know this is going to make me sound bad or whatever, but she's just so low rent. If you're not willing to spend the money then you're not goth."
This was in reference to the shirt she made by clothespinning a picture of Robin Black, obscure Toronto-based goth rocker, to a camoflage t-shirt.
