I was actually wondering about that. When English-language comedy gets translated into other languages, do the puns get translated directly or localized into some regional equivalent? I guess now I have my answer.
Well, at least with Spanish, it depends. Sometimes they replace the joke altogether, sometimes they translate it directly even if it doesn't make sense, sometimes they try to find a middle ground. I think a lot of it depends on what they can fit in with the characters' lip flaps.
